Koehler shines as Marlins beat Rockies
Jun 6, 2015 - 6:32 AM Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Tom Koehler tossed seven solid innings and six different players drove in a run for the Miami Marlins in a 6-2 win over the Colorado Rockies on Friday.Koehler (4-3) allowed one run on eight hits with six strikeouts and one walk for the Marlins, who have won three in a row.
Troy Tulowitzki went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Rockies, who had scored four or more runs in eight straight games. Eddie Butler (3-6) gave up six runs on 11 hits over 5 1/3 innings.
"Kind of a weird outing," said Rockies manager Walt Weiss. "(Butler) Didn't get hit very hard. Lot of the hits had eyes."
The Marlins scored two runs in the second. Marcell Ozuna, Christian Yelich and J.T. Realmuto hit three straight singles to plate a run. Adeiny Hechavarria walked to load the bases for Koehler, who hit an RBI groundout. Dee Gordon grounded out to end the inning.
Giancarlo Stanton hit a solo homer in the third.
Miami tacked on another run after loading the bases in the fifth. Martin Prado, Stanton and Justin Bour hit three consecutive singles to fill the bags with no outs. Prado crossed the plate when Ozuna reached on a fielder's choice. Yelich then grounded into an inning-ending double play.
The Marlins plated two more runs in the sixth. Realmuto tripled and scored on Hechavarria's single to right. Hechavarria raced home on Gordon's double down the left-field line.
Colorado finally got on the board in the bottom half. Charlie Blackmon singled, stole second, advanced to third when DJ LeMahieu flied out and scored on Tulowitzki's single.
Koehler worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh when he got Blackmon to ground out.
"Tone setting effort by him," said Marlins manager Dan Jennings. "Coming down the stretch there, couple of big outs, especially in the seventh inning. Just a tremendous night by (Koehler). He set the tone."
Following a rain delay that lasted almost two hours, Nolan Arenado hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
The Rockies put their first two men on base in the ninth. A.J. Ramos then replaced Vin Mazzaro and got the final three outs for his sixth save of the season.
