Moscot earns 1st win as Reds sweep Phillies

Jun 11, 2015 - 2:59 AM Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Ivan De Jesus cracked a three-run home to highlight a four-run first inning and the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon at Great American Ball Park.

Todd Frazier added two hits and two runs scored and Bryan Pena went 4-for-4 with a pair of RBI for the Reds, who swept this three-game set from the Phillies and have now won four in a row overall.

Cincinnati starting pitcher Jon Moscot (1-1) got his first career win in just his second start, as the Reds ended a six-game homestand with four wins. The right-hander allowed two runs on six hits over six innings. He struck out two and walked two.

"I was able to just settle in early," Moscot said. "My sinker was effective, I was getting ground balls and [we] played some great defense, made some good plays."

Phillies rookie Maikel Franco went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to nine games. Cameron Rupp had two hits and drove in both runs for Philadelphia, which has dropped 15 of its last 19 contests.

"I liked the way he played today, and I like the way he's played the last few games," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said of Rupp. "He's swinging the bat."

The Reds got to Philadelphia starting pitcher Jerome Williams for four runs in the first inning. Pena singled home Frazier with the first run of the frame and De Jesus followed with a three-run homer to stake the Reds to a 4-0 cushion.

The Phillies got a run back in the second when Rupp singled home Ryan Howard. Philadelphia added another run in the fourth when Rupp again came through with a run-scoring hit, this time a double that chased home Cesar Hernandez.

Cincinnati got a run back in the seventh when Pena singled home Frazier, who had earlier doubled.

Aroldis Chapman came on to work the ninth and pick up his 12th save of the season.

Williams (3-6) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on nine hits over six innings. He has not picked up a win since May 16, losing three of his five starts since.
