Ramirez drives in 5 as Brewers beat Nationals
Jun 13, 2015 - 6:04 AM Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Aramis Ramirez doubled three times and drove in five runs to power the Milwaukee Brewers to an 8-4 win over the Washington Nationals in the second of a four-game set at Miller Park on Friday night.Gerardo Parra finished 3-for-4 with a walk and scored two runs and Adam Lind knocked in a run while collecting three hits for the Brewers, who posted their sixth win in eight games behind a 16-hit attack.
Mike Fiers (3-6) picked up the win after allowing three runs on five hits over seven innings. The right-hander struck out eight and walked three.
Bryce Harper hit a solo home run and an RBI single for Washington, which has dropped eight of its last 10 games.
A Wisconsin native, Jordan Zimmermann (5-4) was tagged for six runs on nine hits in 3 1/3 innings.
"His location was off. He couldn't really command much tonight," Nationals manager Matt Williams said of Zimmermann.
The Brewers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Ramirez hit a two-out double to the left-center field gap with men on the corners.
"It was a night where I don't think (Zimmermann) was sharp and we took advantage of it," said Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell.
Harper led off the second by hammering a high fastball from Fiers to right- center field for his 21st homer of the season.
The Brewers got the run back in the third when Ramirez plated Ryan Braun with another two-out double and they put up a four-spot in the fourth after an RBI single by Harper brought the Nationals within 3-2 in Washington's half of the inning.
Jonathan Lucroy hit a two-run single to chase Zimmermann. Milwaukee loaded the bases later against reliever Taylor Hill and Ramirez knocked in two more with a third two-out double.
The Nationals looked to respond in the sixth, loading the bases with two outs, but pinch-hitter Danny Espinosa flied out to the warning track in left to end the threat.
Lind singled home Parra in the bottom of the inning to give the Brewers an 8-2 lead.
Tyler Moore hit a solo home run in the seventh for Washington, which got an RBI double from Wilson Ramos in the eighth.
Game Notes
The Nationals added recently acquired pitcher David Carpenter to their active major league roster and placed pitcher Aaron Barrett on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right bicep prior to Friday's game. Carpenter, who was acquired from the New York Yankees on Thursday in exchange for minor league infielder Tony Renda, retired the side in order in the eighth.
