Young carries Royals past Brewers

Jun 17, 2015 - 4:32 AM Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - The Royals will most likely be well represented at the All-Star Game next month.

The way Chris Young has been pitching, he may join the plethora of teammates leading their respective positions in voting at the Midsummer Classic.

Young tossed seven shutout innings and added three RBI for good measure as Kansas City took both games in Milwaukee with a 7-2 victory over the Brewers.

Lorenzo Cain hit a two-run homer, and Mike Moustakas went 3-for-5 with a solo shot for the Royals, who pounded out 17 hits and have won six of their last eight overall.

Jonathan Lucroy drove in Milwaukee's first run with a single in the eighth frame, and Scooter Gennett hit a solo homer off Luke Hochevar in the ninth.

The Brewers, however, dug themselves a 7-0 hole en route to their fourth straight setback.

Cain smacked a two-run moonshot off Matt Garza in the first inning, and Young chopped a base hit through a drawn-in infield to bring in two more in the fourth.

Young, familiar at the plate having spent seven years in the NL, drove in another run with a line drive to right field in the sixth, and Moustakas hammered a pitch off the second-deck facade in right-center an inning later.

Garza (4-8) was pulled with two outs in the seventh and was charged with six runs on a career-worst 13 hits.

"I hurt myself," Garza said. "I sucked tonight and have to get ready for the next one."

Jarrod Dyson, pinch-hitting for Young, tripled in Kansas City's final run in the eighth.

Young (6-2) allowed just five hits, did not walk a batter and struck out three. He threw 63 of his 89 pitches for strikes and lowered his ERA to 1.98.

"No one can hit him," Royals manager Ned Yost said of Young. "He's just unbelievable."

Game Notes

Young is the sixth pitcher in Royals history to record three RBI in a game and first since Steve Busby accomplished the feat vs. the Angels on Sept. 20, 1972 ... Omar Infante had three hits and three runs scored for the Royals ... Yost is one win shy of matching the franchise record of 410 managerial wins set by Hall of Famer Whitey Herzog from 1975-79 ... Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez sat out with tightness in his right leg ... The Royals have won six in a row against the Brewers, who are 1-8-2 in home series.
