O's hit 2 more HRs, hand Phils 9th straight loss

Jun 18, 2015 - 5:07 AM Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Orioles continued their hot streak with two more home runs in another win over the lowly Phillies, who returned home from one of the worst road trips in team history to find nothing but one more loss.

Chris Parmelee and Travis Snider homered and Ubaldo Jimenez pitched into the seventh inning to lead Baltimore to a 6-4 win over Philadelphia on Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park.

Parmelee homered for the third time in two games after cracking two in his Orioles debut on Tuesday night, a 19-3 blowout of the Phillies in which the O's hit a franchise-record eight homers.

That loss dropped the Phillies to 0-8 on their road trip through Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Baltimore -- their first winless trip of at least eight games since an 0-9 skid during the team's inaugural season in 1883.

Outfielder Jeff Francoeur, who pitched the last two innings on Tuesday and was on the mound during an embarrassing moment when the Phillies couldn't reach their bullpen because the phone was off the hook, came up with the tying runs on base in the ninth inning Wednesday and grounded into a double play to end the game.

The Phillies have lost nine in a row for the first time since an 11-game skid from Sept 4-14, 1999. They are 4-21 in their last 25.

"The frustrating part is that in numerous games we were (one play) away from I don't know how many wins," said Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg. "We came up short in those games and that starts to add up."

The Orioles, meanwhile, are 11-2 since falling a season-worst six games under .500 on June 3.

Jimenez (5-3) beat the Phillies for the first time in four career starts against them after allowing four runs -- three earned -- in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out eight and added an RBI infield single on offense.

"We have a good lineup, we have good pitching, we have great defense," Jimenez said. "It was just a matter of putting everything together."

Parmelee and Snider both homered off Phillies starter Kevin Correia (0-1), who pitched five innings in his second start for the Phillies since signing as a free agent this month. He gave up seven hits and six runs, though only two of them were earned.

Freddy Galvis hit a three-run homer in the seventh to get the Phillies within 6-4 and their bullpen pitched well, with Jeanmar Gomez, Elvis Araujo, Luis Garcia and Ken Giles allowing just one hit and no walks in four innings.

The Orioles batted around to score four unearned runs in the fourth inning for a 5-1 lead after shortstop Freddy Galvis' error let the leadoff man to reach.

David Lough delivered the biggest blow with a two-run double and Matt Wieters and Jimenez each had RBI singles, with the pitcher bouncing a dribbler down the third-base side and beating out the throw. Snider then led off the fifth with his first home run since April 12 to make it 6-1.

Jimenez retired 10 consecutive batters before Cameron Rupp hit a one-out single in the seventh. Cody Asche also singled and Galvis cleared the bases with his first homer since April 21, a blast to right-center field.

Ben Revere tripled on Jimenez's last pitch, but Chaz Roe retired Chase Utley on a bouncer back to the mound to end the inning.

Parmelee, who had a career-high four hits on Tuesday, homered with two outs in the first inning.

Utley scored the Phillies's first run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first after hitting a one-out single, stealing second base and moving to third on a bad throw.

Game Notes

Zach Britton earned his 18th save ... Correia has a 1.69 ERA in 10 2/3 innings for the Phillies. He pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings against Pittsburgh last Friday ... The Phillies placed pitcher Jerome Williams on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain after he allowed six runs while only recording two outs in Tuesday's loss. They recalled right-handed reliever Hector Neris from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take his place on the roster.
