Dickey, Blue Jays beat Mets

Jun 19, 2015 - 5:20 AM Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - R.A. Dickey pitched into the eighth inning to lead the Toronto Blue Jays in a 7-1 win over the New York Mets on Thursday.

Dickey (3-6) gave up a run on three hits with five walks and seven strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings for the Blue Jays, who won both games at Rogers Centre to split this four-game home-and-home series. Jose Bautista drove in two and Chris Colabello hit a solo homer.

Lucas Duda hit a solo home run, while Bartolo Colon (9-5) gave up seven runs -- six earned -- on nine hits over just 4 1/3 innings for the Mets, who had won three straight prior to dropping the past two games.

"We didn't swing the bats very good," Mets manager Terry Collins said.

Toronto got on the board in the second inning on Kevin Pillar's RBI single that scored Colabello, who had reached base on a Dilson Herrera error.

With the bases loaded and one out in the fourth, Ryan Goins hit a potential double-play grounder to first, but Pillar was able to take out Wilmer Flores at second to keep the inning going, and Russell Martin scored.

That opened the floodgates as Jose Reyes singled in one run, Josh Donaldson doubled in another and Bautista's two-run single gave Toronto a 6-0 lead.

Colabello led off the sixth with his fifth home run of the season.

The only trouble Dickey ran into over the first seven innings was in the second, when the Mets loaded the bases with two outs. Dickey struck out Curtis Granderson to end the frame.

"I've felt like my arm strength has been coming back a little bit from the first month of the season, consistently hitting some velocities that help with the movement," said Dickey.

Duda put the Mets on the board in the eighth when he blasted his 10th home run of the season with one out.
