Maxwell, Belt power Giants past Dodgers
Jun 21, 2015 - 3:00 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Maxwell and Brandon Belt each hit a two-run home run to power the San Francisco Giants to a 6-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second of a three-game set on Saturday.Joe Panik doubled twice and scored a run, while Angel Pagan and Buster Posey each drove in a run for the Giants, who have won three straight games.
Tim Hudson (5-6) got off to a shaky start but settled in and allowed just two runs on six hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings to earn the win.
Joc Pederson and Justin Turner hit back-to-back solo shots in the first inning for the Dodgers, who have dropped five of their last six games.
Starter Carlos Frias (4-5) lost his third straight decision after giving up six runs and five hits over six frames.
The Giants have now won five straight games and nine of their last 11 meetings with the Dodgers.
"I was able to keep them off balance," said Hudson. "Fortunately, we've been able to play some pretty good baseball against these guys."
In the fifth, Hudson got aboard with a two-out single and crossed home after Maxwell stroked an 0-2 changeup into the left-field seats for a 4-2 Giants lead.
An inning later, Frias issued a one-out walk to Posey and paid for it in the next at-bat on Belt's two-run shot to right-center field.
Hunter Strickland tossed 1 2/3 innings of flawless relief and Sergio Romo gave up a single to start the ninth, but retired the next three batters to end the game.
Nori Aoki was hit by a pitch to start the game, hobbled to third on Panik's double to the right-field corner and scored on Pagan's sacrifice fly to center. Aoki exited the game thereafter with a lower leg contusion and was replaced by Maxwell.
Posey followed Pagan in similar fashion to score Panik from third and give the Giants an early 2-0 lead.
The Dodgers quickly knotted the score in the home half as Pederson crushed a solo shot into the Giants' bullpen in right and Turner homered in the very next at-bat.
Yasiel Puig doubled to open the third and Pederson walked, but Hudson got Turner to hit into a double play and Adrian Gonzalez to ground out to exit the inning unscathed.
"We had a few chances early but we couldn't capitalize," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "We have to be able to execute."
