Dodgers rout Giants to avoid sweep
Jun 22, 2015 - 3:46 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Yasmani Grandal slugged two of his club's four home runs en route to going 3-for-5 with three runs scored, and Los Angeles downed San Francisco by a 10-2 count in the finale of a three-game series from Chavez Ravine.Justin Turner added a two-run shot and knocked in three for the Dodgers, who also received a solo homer from Adrian Gonzalez as part of a 3-for-4 performance. Yasiel Puig also drove in a pair and Joc Pederson added an RBI double.
Brett Anderson (3-4) allowed a run on five hits while walking two over six effective innings.
Angel Pagan and Joaquin Arias knocked in a run apiece for the Giants. Tim Lincecum (7-4) worked the shortest outing of his career, pulled after retiring only four batters and giving up five runs on seven hits.
"Rough day for Timmy. He had trouble executing most of his pitches and missing his spots," noted Giants manager Bruce Bochy.
San Francisco heads home to host San Diego 1 1/2 games back of Los Angeles in the NL West.
The Giants' starter was in trouble from the outset. Turner walked with two outs, went to third on a Gonzalez single and scored on a wild pitch.
Grandal kicked off the second on a bunt base hit, Jimmy Rollins singled and both were sacrificed by Anderson ahead of a four-run blitz: a two-run single from Puig, RBI double from Pederson and run-scoring hit from Turner which finally chased Lincecum.
Pagan scored Brandon Belt with a third-inning single, but Grandal got that run back in the home half on a solo shot which landed halfway up the right-field bleachers.
Gonzalez then reached the seats in center for a 7-1 game in the bottom of the fourth and Grandal followed suit three batters later on a shot to right center.
"Our main goal is to win games. I got all good pitches to hit," said Grandal. "I was always looking for something in the zone and they gave them to me. It was only a matter of time for us to break out."
In the fifth, Puig singled and Turner went deep to center and the Dodgers were up by a 10-1 count.
The Giants pushed across another run in the eighth, when pinch-hitter Arias doubled home Andrew Susac.
Matt West worked around a leadoff double from Casey McGehee in the ninth, stranding him there after a fly out and two strikeouts.
Game Notes
Lincecum's previous shortest start was a 2 1/3-inning stint against the Rockies on April 11, 2012, where he allowed six runs on eight hits in an eventual 17-8 defeat ... Yusmeiro Petit followed Lincecum and surrendered five runs on eight hits -- four of them home runs -- becoming only the second Giants reliever to give up as many long balls in an appearance (Alan Embree, 2001).
