A's take down Rangers

Jun 25, 2015 - 5:26 AM Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Brett Lawrie hit a grand slam to lead the Oakland Athletics in an 8-2 win over the Texas Rangers in the second of a three-game set.

Josh Phegley hit a two-run home run and Stephen Vogt added a two-run shot for the Athletics, who have won four straight. Kendall Graveman (4-4) gave up two runs on eight hits over seven-plus innings to pick up the win.

Carlos Corporan drove in both runs for the Rangers, who have lost four straight and five of six. Wandy Rodriguez (4-3) was tagged for all eight runs on 11 hits in just four innings of work.

"I felt pretty good today and I had good speed on my ball," said Rodriguez. "I don't know, it just didn't work out."

Oakland got on board in the first inning as Billy Burns led off with a double and later scored on a Vogt double. Walks to Phegley and Billy Butler loaded the bases for Lawrie, who blasted a pitch over the wall in center for a 5-0 lead.

"Any time you can hit a home run it's cool," said Lawrie. "Grand slams are good as well, but the important thing is that we got a win."

The A's added to their lead in the second as Burns again doubled to leadoff the inning and scored on a Vogt single. Phegley launched a shot over the center-field wall for an 8-0 advantage.

Texas didn't have much offense in the first four innings, but got things going in the fifth. With one out, Joey Gallo and Elvis Andrus singled before Leonys Martin lined out. Corporan then smacked a double to right to make it an 8-2 game.

The Rangers put their first two men on base to start the eighth, but Edward Mujica came on and got Adrian Beltre to hit into a double play, then struck out Michael Choice to end the frame.
