Final/13
Angels top Astros in 13th inning
Jun 25, 2015 - 2:01 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Taylor Featherston's bloop single brought home the deciding run with two down in the bottom of the 13th inning and allowed the Angels to claim a 2-1 decision over Houston in the rubber match of this three-game series.Erick Aybar greeted Joe Thatcher (1-2) with a single and was sacrificed to second. He then moved to third on a groundout, before Chad Qualls came on and walked Chris Iannetta. After he moved up on defensive indifference, Featherston's flair into short right brought in Aybar.
"It was a slider and I just got enough of it," Featherston said. "You see walkoff wins on TV. I was blessed that my time was today."
The hit made a winner of Jose Alvarez (2-1), who held the Astros scoreless while recording five outs.
The hosts got on the board in the fourth against Houston starter Lance McCullers, as Albert Pujols and Efren Navarro walked around a Matt Joyce single and Pujols came home on Chris Iannetta's fly to left.
Houston countered in the sixth off Andrew Heaney as Jose Altuve singled with one down, stole second and scored on a Carlos Correa double.
The Angels left runners on the corners in the home eighth after Pat Neshek was called on to fan David Freese swinging on a foul tip.
In the ninth, Preston Tucker singled and was lifted for George Springer, who, after a review, was picked off first. Evan Gattis then hit a ball down the third-base line and appeared to be safe sliding into second though the ruling was otherwise. Another review upheld the original call. Colby Rasmus walked then Huston Street fanned Chris Carter swinging.
In the 10th, Marwin Gonzalez entered as a pinch runner for Luis Valbuena after a walk, then was caught stealing second as he overslid the bag when the tag was applied. Yet another review was requested, which confirmed the original ruling.
"That was a hard-fought game on both sides," Houston manager A.J. Hinch said. "To see the game end on a bloop hit over the infield was a punch in the gut."
