Turner, Dodgers top Cubs

Jun 25, 2015 - 5:41 AM Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Turner smacked a three-run homer and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Chicago Cubs 5-2 in the third of a four- game set.

"Justin's been that guy that I've been able to put in all different spots in the order, play in a number of spots in the field, use him in different ways," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said.

Adrian Gonzalez cracked a solo shot for the Dodgers, who had dropped seven of their last nine games coming in. Starter Mike Bolsinger, a Chicago native, allowed two runs on six hits with six strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings.

J.P. Howell (3-1) tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win. Kenley Jansen blanked the Cubs in the ninth to notch his 10th save of the season.

Liam Hendricks (2-4) surrendered four runs on four hits and a walk over five frames for Chicago, which had its four-game winning streak halted.

"He just wasn't really sharp with his command at all," Cubs manager Joe Maddon said of Hendricks.

The Dodgers raced out to an early lead after plating a run in the second and three more in the third. Gonzalez's leadoff shot to left-center began the scoring in the second. Bolsinger hit a one-out double in the third, Joc Pederson walked two batters later and Turner launched his three-run blast into the seats in left-center to give LA a 4-0 lead.

Chicago got a pair of runs back in the fifth. Pinch-hitter Mike Baxter led off with a single and Addison Russell plated him with a double to left. Chris Denorfia followed with a base hit to put runners at the corners and Russell scored when Anthony Rizzo grounded into a double play.

Pederson's RBI single in the eighth gave the Dodgers an insurance run.
