Moreland homers twice, Rangers get by Orioles

Jul 1, 2015 - 5:06 AM Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Mitch Moreland hit a pair of two-run home runs as Texas downed Baltimore by an 8-6 count at Camden Yards.

Moreland has exploded for four homers and seven RBI, going 4-for-8 in the first two contests in this four-game set.

Shin-Soo Choo and Robinson Chirinos also hit a solo shot each for the Rangers, with Prince Fielder adding an RBI.

Colby Lewis (8-3) allowed five runs -- three earned -- on six hits over six innings. Shawn Tolleson worked the ninth to post his 11th save.

"They kept battling for me," said Lewis. "It was one of those nights where the offense came through."

Chris Davis also slugged twin two-run shots for the Orioles, while Manny Machado contributed a solo homer and Travis Snider posted a late run-scoring hit in defeat.

"I'm just trying to go out there and hit my pitch and do what I can," said Davis.

Miguel Gonzalez (6-5) lasted just 4 1/3 frames, giving up eight hits and six runs while walking three.

Chirinos and Choo left the yard in a span of three batters to open up the fifth and the Rangers regained a two-run edge 6-4, but Machado answered with a leadoff shot in the home portion.

It was 8-5 for the visitors in the eighth as Chaz Roe couldn't make a throw after being off-balance while fielding a Adrian Beltre dribbler, and Moreland barely cleared the wall in left two batters later.

J.J. Hardy walked with two away in the ninth, moved up on indifference and scored on a Snider base hit, but that's as close as the O's came. Though Snider stole second, it was moot when Ryan Flaherty struck out to end the contest.

Davis launched a ball into the right-center seats for a 2-0 game in the home first, one batter after Adam Jones reached on a Rougned Odor error.

Texas countered in the second on a Moreland two-run shot and moved ahead 4-2 in the third on a bases-loaded RBI single from Fielder and a double-play grounder by Beltre.

Jones singled with two down in the home half and Davis went deep again to forge a 4-4 deadlock.

Game Notes

Texas has hit at least four homers in one game at Baltimore seven times since 2005 ... Machado's 12-game hit streak matches Jimmy Paredes (May 1-13) for the longest by an Orioles player this season ... The Orioles have dropped two straight at home to the Rangers after winning 10 of their previous 11 dates with the Texas-based club ... Davis made it seven times this season alone that a Baltimore player hit two HRs in a game, six of those occurred at Camden Yards ... Prior to the contest, Texas activated Josh Hamilton from the 15-day disabled list and optioned outfielder Joey Gallo to Triple-A Round Rock. Hamilton went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
