Bour powers Marlins to a 3-game sweep of Braves with 9-5 win

Sep 27, 2015 - 9:45 PM MIAMI (AP) Justin Bour is on hot streak as the season nears its end, and he credits teammate Dave Phelps for his recent success.

Bour homered twice and drove in three runs, leading the Miami Marlins over the Atlanta Braves 9-5 Sunday for a three-game sweep.

''Honestly it's just not trying too hard,'' Bour said. ''I've got to give some credit to Phelps. The last three days he's picked out a bat for me every day, and I've gone back for him three straight days now and I have home runs. I made sure he marked my bats to go on the road to use on certain days.''

Bour hit a two-run homer off the right-field pole in the first inning and a solo shot in the seventh for the first multihomer game of his big league career. Bour, who has 23 homers on the season, was 7 for 12 in the series with four home runs and eight RBIs.

''There's no doubt he's locked in,'' Braves pitcher Shelby Miller said. ''Obviously a lot of talent there. I think the Marlins have found a first baseman, for sure. He's a guy who looks like he's not going anywhere; a tremendous talent.''

Martin Prado drove in three runs and Marcell Ozuna also homered for Miami, which has won a franchise-best seven consecutive games against the Braves. The Marlins are a major-league best 17-8 since Aug. 31.

''We've been playing pretty good baseball,'' Prado said.

Tom Koehler (11-14) allowed four runs, nine hits, and five walks in 6 2-3 innings. He benefited from four double plays behind him.

''He's `Rambo,''' Marlins manager Dan Jennings said. ''He just keep battling and he finds a way.''

Miller (5-17) gave up seven runs - four earned - and seven hits in 5 1-3 innings. He is 0-16 in 24 starts since winning at Miami on May 17 despite a 3.77 ERA in that span.

''I saw a young man out there ... who's human,'' Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. ''Here's a guy who's gone through a lot of adversity this year, and today he had a chance to go out there in the fifth inning and it just unraveled on him. He didn't help himself in a couple of places, at first base and walking the leadoff hitter.''

Michael Bourn and Cameron Maybin each drove in two runs for the Braves. Atlanta first baseman Freddie Freeman left after aggravating a wrist while lining out in the third.

''It's day to day,'' Gonzalez said. ''Sometimes it bites him and sometimes he has great games like he did in New York. Sometimes it just gets him. Today it really bothered him.''

Nick Swisher homered for Atlanta, which has a major-league low 94. The last time Atlanta failed to reach 100 in a season was 1988.

WEB GEM

Prado made a diving stop at third base on Daniel Castro in the seventh and threw across the diamond from his knees as Bour made an impressive grab.

''We're going to watch that play all postseason,'' Jennings said. ''That's a good as of a play that you can see on both ends.''
