Kershaw fans 10, Dodgers end Toronto's 4-game win string

May 7, 2016 - 9:11 PM TORONTO (AP) Clayton Kershaw had ''a weird day'' on his first start in Canada.

There wasn't anything unusual about the result.

Kershaw struck out 10, Joc Pederson and Justin Turner hit solo home runs and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat Toronto 6-2 Saturday, ending the Blue Jays' season-high winning streak at four.

Coming off a three-hit shutout against the Padres and facing the Blue Jays for the first time, Kershaw (4-1) allowed two runs and eight hits in seven innings.

Kershaw walked none and won back-to-back starts for the first time this season.

''Kind of a weird day for me overall, but I'll take it,'' Kershaw said. ''First time here, trying to figure that out, and facing a new team. I haven't faced a lot of those guys. My stuff wasn't great at times and it was OK at other times. Just kind of an in and out day.''

The three-time NL Cy Young Award winner has fanned at least 10 in four straight outings. Kershaw extended his major league lead in strikeouts (64) and passed Toronto's Marcus Stroman to take top spot in innings (53). He threw a season-high 112 pitches, 78 strikes.

''He is human and he doesn't feel his best every time he takes the mound,'' Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. ''Today was one of those days. He still managed 10 punch outs, seven innings.''

Thanks to a pair of double plays, Kershaw faced just two batters over the minimum in his final five innings.

''He just locked in,'' Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager said. ''You could see the demeanor change. He was, I guess you'd say, tired of not being himself so he went back out there and fought through and really grinded through those innings.''

Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Pillar said facing the three-time Cy Young award winner was ''everything I thought it was going to be.''

Pedro Baez worked the eighth and Kenley Jansen finished as the Dodgers won for the third time in 11 games.

Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey (1-4) lost his fourth straight decision, allowing four runs and six hits in seven innings. He hasn't won since April 4.

Pederson hit a second deck drive to center in the second, his team-high fifth homer. Darwin Barney singled in the bottom half to tie it.

The Dodgers reclaimed the lead in the third. Chase Utley scored on a passed ball and Adrian Gonzalez followed with a two-run single.

''That was a big point in the game,'' Roberts said. ''We had a chance to add on a little bit.''

Pillar made it 4-2 with a two-out RBI double off Kershaw in the fifth but Turner connected off Chad Girodo in the eighth, his first.

Pillar brought the sellout crowd of 47,156 to its feet with a sensational leaping catch on Carl Crawford's liner to left-center in the ninth. Howie Kendrick scored on the sacrifice fly.

''I dragged my right cheek across the turf for about five yards,'' Pillar said. ''I got a little rug burn. Besides that I'm all right.''

DODGING DICKEY

With AL rules in place, Kershaw was happy he didn't have to try and hit Dickey's dancing pitch. ''I didn't want to face a knuckleball today, I was good with it,'' he said of having the DH take his turn at bat.

WALK THIS WAY

Kershaw didn't allow a walk for the third straight start. He's walked just three batters this season.

BULLPEN BOOST

The Dodgers claimed RHP Casey Fien on waivers from Minnesota. Fien, who was 1-0 with a 7.90 ERA in 14 games with the Twins this season, is expected to join Los Angeles as soon as Sunday.

TEENAGE DREAMS

Before the game, Roberts said the Dodgers are considering promoting LHP Julio Urias, their top prospect. Urias, 19, is 3-1 with a 1.88 ERA in five game at Triple-A.

Dodgers: RHP Mike Bolsinger (strained left oblique) was set to begin his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday.

Dodgers: RHP Ross Stripling (0-2, 4.33) allowed a season-high five runs in his previous start, a 5-2 loss against San Diego on April 30.

Blue Jays: RHP Marco Estrada (1-2, 2.64) is winless in four starts. He's 0-1 with a 3.46 ERA in six career games against the Dodgers, including five relief appearances.
