Morales optioned to Triple A Colorado Springs

Jun 12, 2009 - 11:28 PM DENVER(AP) -- The Colorado Rockies returned left-handed pitcher Franklin Morales from his rehab assignment and optioned him to Triple A Colorado Springs before Friday night's game with the Seattle Mariners.

"I really just think he needs a little bit more time," Colorado manager Jim Tracy said. "We want him to go down there and make a few more starts."

Tracy said the decision was based on what Morales did in a rehab start on Thursday for Colorado Springs in a 14-4 loss to Las Vegas. Morales threw 98 pitches, allowing nine runs and eight hits in 4 1-3 innings.

"He was somewhat inconsistent," Tracy said.

Morales went on the 15-day DL on April 22 with a strained left shoulder. He was 1-0 with a 3.38 in two starts with the Rockies at the time he was placed on the disabled list.

"I made it very clear to him that as we move forward that there is more than a strong chance that there's genuine opportunity here for him, but also that it's a two-way street," Tracy said. "The ball is in his court, how he small he wants the window to be or how large the window is to be is up to him."
