Pelfrey struggles as Astros rout Mets

Mar 25, 2007 - 10:06 PM PORT ST. LUCIE, Florida (Ticker) -- Mike Pelfrey might not be ready for the rotation.

Pelfrey struggled through five innings as the New York Mets suffered an 11-3 loss to the Houston Astros in a Grapefruit League contest.

Mike Lamb and non-roster invitee Eric Munson drove in three runs apiece for the Astros, who scored six runs in the seventh inning to secure the victory.

A prized prospect, Pelfrey was named the fifth starter on Friday, but the 23-year-old righthander did not look like he was ready for the start of the season. He allowed four runs and six hits in five innings. He struck out two and walked one.

Lamb and Munson did most of the damage, combining to go 5-for-7. Orlando Palmeiro also stroked three hits for Houston.

Astros starter Wandy Rodriguez yielded three runs - two earned - and four walks, while striking out two in three innings.

Jose Valentin drove in two runs for New York.
