With Tony Pena (0-1) on the mound to start the frame, Chris Getz singled to leadoff, moved to second on Mike Aviles' sacrifice bunt and crossed the plate on Cabrera's single to center.
Billy Butler's two-run home run in the eighth tied the game while Alex Gordon finished the game 3-for-5 with a two-run home run two runs scored for the Royals, who have won all four games this season in their last at-bat.
"It really is pretty crazy," Getz said of winning four games during the last at-bat. "I could think of two. Not three and certainly not four. Obviously, winning is the bottom line, but hopefully we can reel off some wins early."
Luke Hochevar went six innings in the start and was touched for six runs -- five earned -- on seven hits with two walks and a strikeout. Jeremy Jeffress (1-0) got the win for getting the final two outs in the top of the 12th.
Paul Konerko hit a three-run home run while Gordon Beckham went 3-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored for the White Sox, who have dropped their past two. Gavin Floyd gave up four runs on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts over his seven-inning start.
The White Sox got four runs in the first as Juan Pierre tripled to start the game and Beckham followed with a single. After Adam Dunn walked, Konerko blasted a shot over the wall.
"We jumped up early and it looked like it was going to be an easy win," Konerko said. "They hung right in there and started swinging the bats and their bullpen did a heckuva job."
Gordon hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first and Cabrera hit a two-run single in the second to tie the game.
Alexei Ramirez hit an RBI triple in the sixth and later scored on a Mike Aviles' error on a Juan Pierre grounder for a 6-4 lead.
