Mariners' Hernandez tries to pin first loss on Rangers

The American League's reigning Cy Young Award winner went the distance against the Oakland Athletics on Friday, as he allowed two runs and five hits while striking out five without a walk.
"You can't ask for much more than that," said Mariners manager Eric Wedge.
Victimized by poor run support all of last season, Hernandez was backed by six runs from the Mariners in the opener, a total they reached just three times for the right-hander in his 2010 starts.
"Like I've said, I think we're going to score more runs this year," said Hernandez. We're going to be better."
Texas hit Hernandez harder than any other team last season, though, reaching him for 20 runs in six games. He is 10-12 lifetime against the Rangers with a 3.89 ERA in 28 games.
Hernandez will have his hands full today, as the Rangers try to improve to 6-0 on the young season.
The Rangers' early-season roll continued in Tuesday's second game of this set, as Josh Hamilton and Michael Young hit RBI doubles in the sixth inning that counted for the winning runs and Texas held on for a 3-2 victory.
Mitch Moreland knocked in the other Rangers run with a triple off the wall in the second inning as Texas improved to 5-0 for the first time since opening 1996 with seven consecutive wins.
Alexi Ogando (1-0) earned the win in his first major league start, giving up two hits and two walks in six shutout innings.
"He feels nothing out there. When I say nothing, I mean he's not overwhelmed by the situation," Rangers manager Ron Washington said of Ogando. "I thought he might have had butterflies, but it didn't happen."
After the Mariners rallied for two runs against the Texas bullpen, Neftali Feliz pitched a perfect ninth for his second save.
Seattle starter Michael Pineda took the loss, the Mariners' third in a row after they opened the season with back-to-back wins over Oakland. Pineda (0-1) allowed all three Texas runs in six innings, giving up five hits and a walk while striking out four. Jamey Wright threw two perfect innings of relief.
Getting the ball for Texas today will be lefty C.J. Wilson, who escaped without a decision on Opening Day against the Boston Red Sox. Wilson allowed four runs (two earned) and six hits over 5 2/3 innings of that one, and struck out six while walking a pair.
Wilson faced the Mariners five times last season and was 1-2 with 4.50 ERA.
Texas won 12 of its 19 matchups with the Mariners in 2010.
