Blue Jays get by A's, thanks to Snider's blast

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Travis Snider's three-run homer in the fourth inning gave the Blue Jays the lead for good as they topped the Athletics, 5-3, in the second of a three-game set at Rogers Centre.

Yunel Escobar went 3-for-3 with a run scored and both Aaron Hill and Adam Lind knocked in a run for Toronto, which won the first game of the series, 7-6, in 10 innings on Tuesday.

Jesse Litsch (1-0) went 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out seven. Mark Rzepczynski pitched two scoreless innings and Jon Rauch closed out the game for his first save of the season.

Hideki Matsui went 1-for-4 with a two-run double while Daric Barton added an RBI single. Dallas Braden (0-1) went seven-plus innings, allowing all five runs on 10 hits.

Lind gave Toronto an early 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the bottom of the first that scored Escobar.

Litsch only yielded one hit until the fourth inning when, after Barton walked to begin the fame, David DeJesus roped a double to right to put runners on second and third. Matsui plated both with his double to right field to give Oakland a 2-1 advantage.

The lead was short lived as Snider connected on his first homer of the season in the bottom of the fourth, plating Juan Rivera and Edwin Encarnacion.

"I got a hanging slider and put a good swing on a mistake pitch," Snider said.

Barton made it a one-run game in the fifth with his two-out single to center that scored Coco Crisp from third.

Hill scored Josh McDonals with a single to left on the newly-inserted Brad Ziegler in the bottom of the eighth to cap the Toronto scoring.

Rzepczynski struck out Matsui to start the top of the ninth, and Rauch came in to retire Kurt Suzuki and Mark Ellis to end the game.

"We never recovered from [Snider's] three-run homer," A's manager Bob Geren said.

Game Notes

The Blue Jays improved to 4-1 on the season...Toronto is still without Jose Bautista who is away from the team dealing with a family issue...Escobar hit a game-winning two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th on Tuesday.
