White Sox top Rays

Apr 10, 2011 - 3:15 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - A.J. Pierzynski drove in two runs and Philip Humber tossed six innings of one-run baseball, as the Chicago White Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays, 4-2, in the third test of a four-game series at U.S. Cellular Field.

Gordon Beckham and Brent Morel each had an RBI for the White Sox, who have won three of four.

Humber (1-0), making his third big league start, gave up four hits and struck out four to pick up the win. Chris Sale picked up his first save despite giving up a solo homer to Felipe Lopez in the ninth.

"I didn't shake [catcher] A.J. [Pierzynski] off but once or twice," Humber said.

Ben Zobrist knocked in a run for the Rays, who won 9-7 on Friday to claim their first victory of the season. But Saturday's loss has Tampa Bay at 1-7 to start the year.

Wade Davis (0-2) went six innings in the start, allowing two runs on five hits to suffer the loss. He also walked three and fanned four.

The Rays got on the board in the second. Dan Johnson started the frame with a walk and crossed the plate on Zobrist's double to right.

Chicago tied things up in the third. Morel doubled, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Beckham's sac fly.

The White Sox loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth. Morel knocked in a run with an infield bloop single over the head of Davis. Juan Pierre stepped to the plate and crushed Davis' offering to the right field corner. It had the makings of an inside-the-park grand slam, but Sam Fuld made a sensational diving catch to keep it a 2-1 game.

"I've never seen a catch that good in person," Davis said.

Tampa Bay stranded a runner on second in the fourth and fifth.

Chicago added to its lead in the seventh. Jake McGee took over on the mound for Juan Cruz with runners on the corners and two outs. Carlos Quentin walked to load the bases before Pierzynski's two-run double to right made it 4-1.

Sergio Santos pitched a scoreless eighth for the White Sox.

Lopez's solo shot off Sale in the ninth accounted for the final margin.
