A's Anderson tries to find the win column versus White Sox

Apr 13, 2011 - 2:41 PM (Sports Network) - Brett Anderson tries to get into the win column this afternoon when the Oakland Athletics and Chicago White Sox conclude a three- game series at U.S. Cellular Field.

Anderson was brilliant on Friday against the Minnesota Twins, but after tossing seven scoreless innings, surrendered two runs in the eighth and was saddled with the loss. The defeat followed up another solid effort to start the year that saw him give up just a run in six innings of work.

The 23-year-old lefty is 1-1 lifetime against the White Sox with a 4.88 ERA in four starts.

Chicago, meanwhile, will hand the ball to a talented lefty of its own in John Danks, who is 0-1 in his first two starts with a 4.50 ERA. Danks did not get a decision on Friday against Tampa Bay, as he allowed four runs and six hits in six innings. He also walked four batters and was in line for the win, before the Rays rallied for five runs in the ninth in his team's 9-7 loss.

Danks has had tremendous success against the A's over the course of his career, posting a 4-1 mark to go along with a 2.48 ERA in six starts.

After Oakland won in extra innings on Monday, Chicago returned the favor on Tuesday, as Alexi Ramirez hit a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the White Sox to a 6-5 victory. Ramirez also clubbed a three-run shot and finished with four RBI for Chicago, which has won three of four.

The White Sox have led in all 11 of their games this season, and two of their four losses have come in games that they led heading into the ninth inning.

Chris Sale (2-0) got the win for allowing only one hit in two innings of work out of the Chicago bullpen. Starter Edwin Jackson allowed three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.

"I try not to worry about my role or the decision," Sale said. "I just try to get outs whenever I am handed the ball."

Kevin Kouzmanoff hit a two-run home run in the sixth for the A's, who had a three-game winning streak stopped. Bobby Cramer (0-1) took the loss for allowing Ramirez's 10th-inning homer.

Oakland starter Trevor Cahill, who was making his first start since signing a new five-year contract, was charged for four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings.

"When (my teammates) go out there and do their part it makes it harder to swallow that I didn't do mine," Cahill said.

Following this series, the Athletics, who will be concluding a nine-game road trip this afternoon, will host the Detroit TIgers in four-game set, while Chicago welcomes the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to town for three games.

Oakland was 5-4 against the White Sox last season.
