Chatwood gets first major league win as Angels top ChiSox

Apr 17, 2011 - 3:29 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Tyler Chatwood went seven strong innings to pick up his first major league win and Hank Conger hit a three-run homer to help the LA Angels of Anaheim take a 7-2 win over the Chicago White Sox in the second of a three-game set.

Chatwood (1-1) gave up just one run on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

"He had great life in the zone," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said of Chatwood's pitches. "He pitched very well with his fastball."

Howie Kendrick hit a two-run home run for the Angels, who have won four straight.

Paul Konerko and Carlos Quentin each had a solo home run for the White Sox, who have dropped their past three games. Gavin Floyd (1-1) was banged up for six runs on eight hits over six innings.

The start of the game was delayed for two hours and 10 minutes due to rain.

A wild pitch by Floyd in the second inning scored Vernon Wells and Kendrick hit a two-run home run in the third to give the Angels a 3-0 lead.

Quentin led off the fifth with a shot over the left field wall to make it a two-run game, but the Angels got that back and more in the sixth as Conger's three-run shot to right made it a 6-1 game. His homer scored Alberto Callaspo and Mark Trumbo, who both walked.

Maicer Izturis hit a one-out double in the seventh and Kendrick followed with a single to right for a 7-1 lead.

Konerko hit a two-out, solo homer in the ninth to account for the final score.

Despite the blast, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said, "Our bats are kind of quiet."

Game Notes

Chicago had won seven of nine against the Angels last season...The Angels will work for the sweep on Sunday with Dan Haren on the mound while Mark Buehrle will toe the rubber for Chicago...The Angels batted 5-for-14 with runners in scoring position.
