Angels complete sweep of ChiSox for fifth straight win

Apr 18, 2011 - 12:20 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Maicer Izturis finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and scored twice as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim finished off a sweep of the White Sox with a 4-2 decision in the final match of a three-game series.

Mark Trumbo hit a solo homer among his two hits, while Bobby Abreu, Torii Hunter and Alberto Callaspo drove in a run each for the Angels, winners of five straight contests.

Dan Haren (4-0) gave up seven hits and two runs, fanning six without a walk over 6 1/3 innings. The right-hander, who has not lost since August 20, actually saw his earned run average raised to 1.16.

"So far, I've done a good job of keeping the defense in the game, minimizing walks and working ahead in the count. That's my game, it's nothing fancy," Haren said of the keys to his early-season success.

Carlos Quentin doubled twice and scored once for the White Sox, who dropped their fourth straight game.

Mark Buehrle (1-1) took the loss, dented for 10 hits and four runs over seven full frames.

Chicago, which completed a 10-game homestand at 4-6, begins an 11-game road trip on Monday in Tampa Bay.

"We're having trouble swinging the bast right now," said ChiSox manager Ozzie Guillen. "Hopefully leaving Chicago on a road trip, those things will start to come around like they did in camp."

Haren cruised through the first six innings, allowing only three hits, but ran into trouble up 4-0 in the seventh. Quentin doubled with one out and Alex Rios singled to short before A.J. Pierzynski and Alexei Ramirez hit consecutive RBI singles to halve Chicago's deficit.

Hisanori Takahashi entered and retired his one batter, then Francisco Rodriguez set down Juan Pierre on a fielder's choice to end the inning.

Fernando Rodney enjoyed a quiet eighth and Jordan Walden left the bases loaded in the ninth when he induced a game-ending fly out from Pierre to earn his third save.

Hunter's first-inning sacrifice fly put the Halos on the board, then Abreu's third-inning RBI double and Trumbo's two-out solo homer in the fourth made it 3-0 for the visitors.

With one out in the sixth, a ball hit by Vernon Wells that bounced off the top of the wall in right-center came back into play. A review determined that it never left the field, and Wells took third with a triple. Callaspo then knocked him in with a single to left.
