Phillips leads Reds into middle test with Cards

Last night, during a lengthy storm delay in the first inning of Cincinnati's 4-2 defeat at Busch Stadium, Phillips Tweeted about how fans in St. Louis can't boo properly.
Phillips homered during the game and even gave a small salute to the crowd as he rounded third base, just as boos rained down from the stands.
He'll likely receive the same reception this afternoon when these NL Central rivals battle in the middle test of their three-game series.
A fierce storm that included at least one tornado last night that blew through the St. Louis area caused damage and also injuries at Lambert airport. That forced the game to be delayed over two hours, but the Cardinals came out on top. Kyle McClellan was pushed out of a starting role due to an incoming storm, but ended up pitching six-plus strong innings.
"Kyle just proves how strong of a mind he has. Mind controls your effort and the effort was there," Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said.
Albert Pujols drove in two runs for the Cardinals, winners of three in a row and seven of their last nine games. Ryan Theriot went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
Matt Maloney (0-1) was charged with eight hits and three runs over two-plus innings. He started in place of Edinson Volquez, who didn't pitch after pre- game warmups.
Tonight, Cincinnati goes with lefty Travis Wood, who won his first start and has since gone 0-2 with a no-decision in three outings.
He defeated the Cardinals with seven innings of five-hit, one-run ball in a lone start as a rookie in 2010, striking out three batters and walking two.
He beat Milwaukee, 4-2, on April 2 with seven innings of one-run ball, but has since been tagged for 20 hits and 13 runs in 15 innings.
In 124 2/3 career innings, he's allowed a .233 opposition batting average.
Starting for the Cardinals will be Chris Carpenter. The righty, who turns 36 on Wednesday, is 12-3 with a 2.02 ERA lifetime against the Reds. He's off to a tough start this season, though, but is coming off a strong showing, having pitched seven shutout innings in a no-decision at Los Angeles.
St. Louis won last season's series, 12-6.
