Rockies get past Marlins

Apr 24, 2011 - 7:16 AM Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Troy Tulowitzki had a pair of hits and drove in a run as the Colorado Rockies won, 3-1, to snap the Florida Marlins' four-game win streak in the middle tilt of a three-game set.

Jason Hammel (2-1) allowed just one run on seven hits with four strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings for the win, the Rockies' second in five games. He also brought in a run on a squeeze bunt.

"Everbody has been comfortable with each other since the start," said Hammel. "So when you go on the road you know you're around friends and guys who will get the job done."

Chris Coghlan knocked in the lone run for Florida, which won the first matchup, 4-1, on Friday when Anibal Sanchez flirted with no-hitter that was broken up in the ninth.

"It was one of those things where he threw a heck of a game," said Coghlan about Hammel. "We couldn't do anything about it and that's just how it goes some nights in this game."

Marlins starter Javier Vazquez (1-2) suffered the loss after surrendering three runs on four hits and five walks in six innings.

After giving up a run in the first, Vazquez settled down for four scoreless innings until he had a costly sixth.

Todd Helton and Seth Smith started the inning with back-to-back doubles. Helton raced to home on Ty Wigginton's sacrifice fly deep into right field to break the 1-1 tie. Vazquez then intentionally walked Jose Morales to get to the pitcher, Hammel, who helped his own cause by laying down a perfect squeeze bunt to plate Smith for a 3-1 lead.

Vazquez did get out of the inning without any more damage, but didn't see the field again as Ryan Webb replaced him in the seventh.

Both bullpens did their job and the score stayed the same the rest of the way while Huston Street threw a 1-2-3 ninth to post his seventh save of the season.

Vazquez started a little wild in the first inning by walking two batters. He gave a free pass to leadoff hitter Dexter Fowler, who later scored on Tulowitzki's soft liner into center field for a 1-0 lead.

The Marlins offense knotted the game in the third on Coghlan's sacrifice fly to center to plate John Buck.
