Brewers out for revenge against Reds

Apr 25, 2011 - 3:07 PM (Sports Network) - The last time NL Central rivals Cincinnati and Milwaukee got together the Reds recorded a three-game sweep at Great American Ball Park.

The Brewers will shoot for a measure of revenge when they welcome Cincinnati to the Badger State for three straight games starting with tonight's showdown at Miller Park. The Reds have dominated the series with 18 wins in the last 21 contests.

Milwaukee has won four of six games overall and took two of three matchups from Houston over the weekend. In Sunday's 4-1 win in the series finale, Randy Wolf fired eight innings of one-run ball and scattered four hits with four strikeouts and no walks. John Axford closed the door in the ninth for his fourth save.

"His command wasn't there the first couple of games, and then all of a sudden it got good," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said of Wolf, who allowed 12 runs in his first two starts. "When he is able to hit his spots, he's tough."

Rickie Weeks and Brandon Boggs both homered and Carlos Gomez registered three hits in the win for the Brewers, who got RBI from Prince Fielder and Casey McGehee.

Taking the ball for Milwaukee tonight will be Chris Narveson. Narveson is 1-0 with a 2.19 earned run average in four starts and has posted consecutive no- decisions. In his previous start on Wednesday at Philadelphia, Narveson was reached for three runs and four hits in six innings in the 4-3 setback.

The left-hander is aiming for his first win against the Reds, as he owns an 0-1 mark with a 2.93 ERA in four career games (2 starts).

Cincinnati lost two of three games over the weekend to division-rival St. Louis and dropped a 3-0 decision last night in the series finale. Edinson Volquez got the start for Dusty Baker's club and gave up a crucial three-run homer to Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina in the sixth inning.

"I just made a mistake, wrong pitch to him," Volquez said the homer.

Brandon Phillips had two of Cincinnati's four hits in defeat.

Bronson Arroyo gets the nod for the Reds tonight and he's 2-2 with a 4.24 earned run average in four starts. Arroyo won his first two starts of the season, but has dropped back-to-back starts, including last Wednesday's 3-1 loss versus Arizona.

Arroyo was reached for three runs and five hits in 6 1/3 frames and struck out a season-best eight batters. He was pounded for five runs on nine hits in just four innings versus Pittsburgh on April 15. Arroyo beat Milwaukee in his 2011 debut on April 3 in the Queen City, as he tossed seven innings of three-run ball in a 12-3 beating.

The right-hander is 10-7 with a 3.77 ERA in 22 games (19 starts) in his career against the Brewers.
