Cabrera, Indians beat Tigers in 13 innings

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Orlando Cabrera's bases-loaded hit in the bottom of the 13th inning lifted the Indians to a 3-2 victory over the Tigers for their second final at-bat victory in as many days.

Tony Sipp (1-0) got the win, working two scoreless innings of relief to give the Indians their fifth straight win overall and 12th in a row at Progressive Field.

"We expect to win everyday and there is no doubt about that," said Cabrera. "We know there are going to be losses, but we're going to fight for wins everyday we are out there."

Brayan Villarreal (1-1) took the loss in 1 1/3 innings of relief, handing Detroit its fifth straight defeat after a four-game win streak.

"We didn't show any patience at the plate tonight," said Detroit manager Jim Leyland. "With how many strikeouts we had, it just shows poor concentration."

Michael Brantley led off the 13th inning with a single and moved to second on an errant pick-off attempt by Villarreal. Asdrubal Cabrera then laid down a bunt to put the winning run on third with one out.

Detroit decided to intentionally walk the next two batters, Shin-Soo Choo and Carlos Santana, in order to make a double play possible, but that idea backfired when Cabrera smoked a ball into deep center field to win the game.

Neither starter factored in the decision.

Alex White made his first career start for Cleveland and pitched six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and four walks. Rick Porcello took the mound for Detroit and lasted seven innings where he allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk while fanning seven.

Miguel Cabrera led off the fourth inning with a home run and Ryan Raburn followed two batters later with a solo shot to give Detroit a two-run lead.

Carlos Santana, who hit a game-winning grand slam on Friday, answered with a homer in the bottom half of the fourth to pull the Indians within one.

Brantley tied the game at two in the sixth with a leadoff home run that he pulled just inside the right field foul pole. Cleveland managed to load the bases with two outs on singles by Choo and Cabrera and a Jack Hannahan walk, but Matt LaPorta flew out to center to keep the game knotted at two.

Choo extended his hit streak to seven games...Cleveland's bullpen combined to throw seven scoreless innings of relief...Detroit went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.
