Braves defeat Brewers in game one of double-header

May 5, 2011 - 12:42 AM Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Martin Prado drove in three runs, while Chipper Jones and Brian McCann each plated two, as the Atlanta Braves breezed past the Milwaukee Brewers, 8-3, in the opener of a double-header from Turner Field.

Tommy Hanson (4-3) earned the win in the make-up of Tuesday night's rain out, allowing just two runs and striking out seven over six innings.

"I felt good...I battled," said Hanson. "It was just one of those days when I went out and tried to make my pitches and came out of there with a win."

Marco Estrada (1-1) allowed seven runs -- six earned -- and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings to suffer the loss.

Prince Fielder belted his seventh home run of the season, while Ryan Braun, who had reached base safely in Milwaukee's first 28 games this season, went 0- for-4.

Milwaukee struck first, taking a 1-0 lead behind Craig Counsell's two-out RBI single in the top of the second.

Prado's first RBI came in the third, as his single to right brought home Nate McLouth. Later in the frame, Prado crossed the plate courtesy of a McCann two- out single to make the score 2-1.

Fielder promptly responded, taking a 1-2 slider deep to right to lead off the fourth, evening the score at two apiece.

With the bases loaded in the home half of the fourth, Prado again delivered, lofting a soft liner to center, scoring Freddie Freeman and Alex Gonzalez.

The sixth saw the floodgates open, as Atlanta again loaded the bases, consequently chasing Estrada from the game. Reliever Mitch Stetter's first pitch popped out of the glove of Jonathan Lucroy, allowing McLouth to score. In all, McLouth went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. After Heyward was hit by a pitch, Chipper Jones brought home Brooks Conrad and Prado with a single to center. A McCann sac fly to deep right then brought home Heyward, extending the Braves' lead to 8-2.

Rickie Weeks led off the eighth with a triple to right and scored on Nyjer Morgan's groundout to second, but the Brewer's would get no closer, eventually dropping their fourth straight game.

Game Notes

Milwaukee was just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position...Fielder is one home run shy of 200 for his career...In the Braves' 16 wins this season Prado is 25-for-67 at the plate, as compared to just 10-for-65 in their 15 losses.
