Phillies finish sweep of Nationals

May 6, 2011 - 2:23 AM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Raul Ibanez capped a torrid series with a long solo home run, three runs batted in and two more scored, as the Philadelphia Phillies finished off a three-game sweep of the Washington Nationals with a 7-3 victory.

Roy Halladay (5-1) tied Pittsburgh's Kevin Correia for the National League lead in wins, surrendering two runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts over seven solid frames. Shane Victorino hit a two-run home run, while Jimmy Rollins, Placido Polanco and Wilson Valdez had multi-hit games for the Phillies, who have won six of seven.

Ibanez went 10 games without a hit before this series, but finished 8-of-12 with two home runs and six runs batted in these three games in against the Nationals.

John Lannan (2-4) was hit for the loss, giving up six runs on seven hits in just two-plus frames. Jayson Werth finished his first series back in Citizens Bank Park with one hit, an RBI and a run scored for the Nationals, who have lost four of six.

The Phillies put a crooked number on the scoreboard in the third. Rollins singled to left in front of Victorino's towering fly ball that hugged the left-field line and landed over the wall for a two-run homer. Polanco then followed with a grounder into left and Ryan Howard worked a walk. John Mayberry pounded a double that one-hopped the wall in dead center, scoring both runners. Ibanez's fifth double of the season scored Howard and Valdez's run-scoring single capped the six-run frame.

Washington made Halladay worked in the fourth, as the right-hander yielded a pair of runs. Werth lined a single to left, and with one out, Adam LaRoche singled to right. Wilson Ramos followed with a base hit, and the throw home beat Werth, but the former Phillie slid underneath Dane Sardinha's tag. Jerry Hairston worked a 13-point at-bat and singled to load the bases. Ian Desmond's sacrifice fly made the score 6-2, but Matt Stairs grounded out to end the threat.

Ibanez jumped on a first-pitch fastball in the fifth, driving it into the front row of the second deck in right-center field for a 7-2 lead. The Nationals capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Game Notes

Halladay lowered his earned run average to 2.19 and won his 13th straight game against the National League East...Lannan lost his 10th straight decision to the Phillies...Philadelphia is 12-5 at home this season...The Phillies have won 35 of their last 45 contests against the Nationals.
