White gets first win as Indians top Weaver, Angels

May 8, 2011 - 4:49 AM Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Shin-Soo Choo hit a two-run double in the Indians' 4-3 victory over the Angels in the second game of a three-game series.

Alex White (1-0) earned his first career win in six innings of work in which he allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six to give the Indians their ninth win in their last 11 games.

"It's a great feeling. Something I've looked forward to for a long time...It's one of those nights you'll remember forever," White said of his victory.

Jered Weaver (6-2) took the loss, lasting six innings and allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks to end Anaheim's three-game win streak. It was the first time in Weaver's career he pitched at least six innings and did not record a strikeout.

Vernon Wells hit a two-run home run in the second inning to give the Angels an early lead.

Cleveland got within a run in the fourth with a sacrifice fly by Orlando Cabrera that scored Carlos Santana. Santana hit a one-out double and moved to third on a Travis Hafner single.

The Indians then took the lead in the fifth after Grady Sizemore and Asdrubal Cabrera had back-to-back, two-out walks and scored on Choo's double. Santana followed with an RBI single to make the score 4-2.

"Sometimes you go out there without your best stuff and battle. In the fourth and fifth inning I got away from my game plan. You have days like that. Sometimes you have to tip your cap," said Weaver.

The Angels fought back with a run in the sixth on a Wells sacrifice fly that brought home Torii Hunter. Hunter worked a one-out walk and moved to third on a Howie Kendrick single before crossing the plate.

Maicer Izturis led off the eighth with a single for the Angels off of reliever Vinnie Pestano. After a Hunter strikeout, Kendrick hit a grounder to third base. Jack Hannahan couldn't make the play at second so he threw to first for the force. Izturis thought he could take third on the throw, but Santana made the throw back to Hannahan, who made the easy tag and ended the inning.

Chris Perez worked a perfect ninth inning to earn his 10th save of the season.
