Anibal Sanchez takes no-hitter into seventh, Marlins rout Nats

May 8, 2011 - 11:26 PM Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Anibal Sanchez took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and Gaby Sanchez went 4-for-4 with a three-run homer and scored three times as Florida ripped Washington, 8-0, in the finale of a three-game set.

Anibal Sanchez (2-1) finished with a career-best 11 strikeouts while allowing just two hits in seven full innings. Ryan Webb and Burke Badenhop finished off the combined four-hitter with a scoreless inning apiece.

"By the fifth inning, I was aware of what I was doing," the Florida hurler said. "I tried not to think too much about it. I wanted to keep in the game, throw the pitches I wanted, where I wanted, in the strike zone."

Greg Dobbs added three hits and drove in two runs for the Marlins, who salvaged a game in the series and snapped a three-game losing skid.

Florida welcomes Philadelphia on Monday for a three-game series. The Phillies are first in the NL East and the Marlins rank second.

Mike Morse collected a pair of hits for the Nationals, who have dropped four of six. Livan Hernandez (3-4) was torched in defeat for eight hits and six runs over five frames.

"This was one of those times I couldn't do anything about," Hernandez admitted. "You gotta go and get ready for the next start, put this one in the books and try to fix what went wrong."

Sanchez had his perfect game ruined in the first inning when Omar Infante was given an error on a Laynce Nix grounder. He hit Danny Espinosa with a pitch to start the third but retired the next 12 men in succession.

Nix began the seventh with a line drive to right that Mike Stanton couldn't grab on a dive to break up the no-hitter. Morse added a one-out single but Sanchez completed his outing by getting Jerry Hairston, Jr. and Ivan Rodriguez on fly outs.

"The pitch count was high, over seven innings, and that would mean he had to get to 115, 120 if he was going to finish," said Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez. "It was hot out there, too. But then again, I was pulling for him to get that no-hitter."

Florida picked up single runs in the second and fourth by similar means, with Gaby Sanchez hitting leadoff doubles both times and then driven in by Dobbs -- thanks to a double in the former and a single in the latter.

A bloop single from Hanley Ramirez in the fifth brought in Infante, who began the frame with a base hit. Ramirez, along with Chris Coghlan -- who worked a two-out walk -- later came in when Sanchez hit a three-run shot for a 6-0 game.

Stanton's seventh-inning RBI infield single pushed the Marlins' edge to seven, then a wild pitch from Nats reliever Henry Rodriguez with two in scoring position in the eighth accounted for Florida's eighth and final run.
