Scioscia's Angels set to host White Sox

May 9, 2011 - 2:36 PM (Sports Network) - Fresh off manager Mike Scioscia's 1,000th career victory, the LA Angels of Anaheim look to keep the party rolling when they take on the Chicago White Sox tonight in the opener of a three-game series at the Big A.

The Angels rallied for a 6-5 win over Cleveland Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game set in Anaheim thanks to three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Peter Bourjos had an RBI infield single and Erick Aybar stroked a two-run double to put the Halos ahead for good.

Scioscia became the 56th manager to have 1,000 or more victories and just the 23rd skipper to record 1,000-plus wins with a single team. He was doused with a cooler of ice water afterwards by outfielders Torii Hunter and Vernon Wells.

"It felt cold and I will get Torii back," Scioscia said on the club's site. "In a meeting next spring, somewhere along the line. I'm glad they stayed out though and it means a lot to me and our staff."

Alberto Callaspo had two RBI and both Hank Conger and Bourjos finished with two hits and knocked in a run for the Angels, who have won four of five and eight of their last 13 games. Dan Haren started the day on the hill and did not factor in the outcome, allowing two runs with 10 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.

Fernando Rodney picked up the win despite yielding two runs and three hits in the eighth inning, while Jordan Walden collected his sixth save in the ninth.

Ervin Santana gets the nod for Scioscia's ballclub tonight and he's 1-3 with a 4.43 earned run average in seven starts. Santana previously toed the rubber in last Wednesday's 5-3 win in 13 innings at Boston and fired four shutout innings with seven K's before rain halted play.

Santana, a right-hander, is 4-3 with a 3.92 ERA in 11 career games (10 starts) against the White Sox.

Chicago will continue a nine-game road trip Monday and won the final two tests of a three-game series in Seattle over the weekend. In Sunday's 5-2 win in 10 innings, Alexei Ramirez and Adam Dunn highlighted a three-run top of the 10th inning with RBI doubles and Paul Konerko finished 5-for-5 with a run scored.

"They're fighting," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said of his club. "I think they're fighting during every at-bat."

Mark Buehrle held the Mariners to a pair of runs on nine hits through the first eight innings for the no-decision and Sergio Santos registered the win with two shutout innings of relief.

The White Sox will also visit Oakland for three games on the trek and are scheduled to send Edwin Jackson to the hill Monday night. Jackson is coming off eight innings of one-run ball in last Tuesday's 1-0 loss to Minnesota in which Twins starter Francisco Liriano tossed a no-hitter. Jackson couldn't catch a break that day and is mired in a personal four-game losing streak.

Jackson is 2-4 in seven starts to go along with a 4.98 earned run average and hasn't won since April 7 versus Tampa Bay. In 10 career games (7 starts) against the Angels, the right-handed Jackson is 2-4 with a 4.68 ERA.

Anaheim swept a three-game set in Chicago from April 15-17 this season after the White Sox recorded seven straight wins to wrap up the 2010 series. The Pale Hose prevailed in all three meetings at the Big A from Sept. 24-26.
