A's hope to get solid outing from Anderson vs. Rangers

One night after Cahill improved to 6-0 on the season with seven strong innings against the Texas Rangers, Anderson will handle pitching duties in Tuesday's second portion of a three-game series from Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
Anderson is 2-2 with a 2.77 earned run average in seven starts and went the distance the last time out in a 4-3 loss versus Cleveland on Thursday. He allowed two runs and seven hits with no walks and five strikeouts against the Tribe after he was pummeled by Texas in an 11-2 loss on April 30. In the lopsided setback to the Rangers at the Coliseum, Anderson permitted a season- high seven runs and nine hits in just five innings. He is 1-3 with a 6.44 ERA in six career starts against Texas.
A total of five runs in his last two starts gives the A's reason to worry about how they will perform Tuesday. They didn't have much concern in last night's series opener, as Oakland squeezed out a 7-2 victory behind strong pitching from Cahill, who allowed five hits and one run with seven strikeouts and one walk for the win.
"I think it's kind of a team thing," Cahill said of his 6-0 start. "The team has scored a lot of runs when I pitch."
The right-hander joined the Angels' Jered Weaver and the Tigers' Max Scherzer as the first pitchers to reach six wins this season. A's outfielder Josh Willingham responded to his one-game suspension by knocking in five runs, including a three-run homer. The penalty stemmed from Willingham's supposed inappropriate conduct during a 4-3 loss to Kansas City on Saturday, which included making contact with umpire Bill Miller.
Willingham already appealed the suspension and is allowed to participate. Willingham, Daric Barton and Conor Jackson also scored twice for the Athletics, who have won two straight, three of four and six of their past nine games to pull within one game of Anaheim for AL West bragging rights. Texas is two games off the pace in the division standings.
The Rangers will resume a nine-game homestand Tuesday and have lost two straight and seven of nine games. In last night's loss to the A's in the opener of this set, C.J. Wilson didn't have his best stuff and was hit for five runs on only two hits in seven innings.
Mitch Moreland finished with two hits, including a home run, and Ian Kinsler went 2-for-4 with a run scored for Texas, which is 1-3 on the residency and will also entertain the LA Angels of Anaheim later this week.
"We're putting too much pressure on ourselves. I think a lot of it is unneeded," Moreland said of the Rangers' recent slump. "We're not that bad off right now and it's something a few wins can fix."
Colby Lewis draws the assignment for the Rangers tonight and has dropped four of his last five starts, including Thursday's 3-1 loss at Seattle. Lewis pitched well enough for the win, but allowed all three runs on eight hits with 11 K's over eight innings of work. Lewis has pitched at least eight innings in each of his previous two outings and is 2-4 with a 5.21 ERA in six starts.
The right-hander beat Oakland on April 30 with eight innings of two-run ball in an 11-2 rout and is 4-3 in 13 career games, 11 of which have been starts, against the Athletics.
The A's have won nine of the last 14 matchups with Texas and are 4-1 in this season's series.
