Giants seek second straight sweep vs. Diamondbacks

May 12, 2011 - 2:34 PM (Sports Network) - The San Francisco Giants take aim at their second straight sweep when they wrap up a three-game series versus the Arizona Diamondbacks this afternoon at AT&T Park.

The Giants have won five in a row thanks to a three-game sweep of Colorado and back-to-back victories over the D'Backs, including Wednesday's 4-3 triumph in the middle test of this set. Aubrey Huff homered, Miguel Tejada had three hits and an RBI and Andres Torres posted a pair of hits with a run knocked in for San Francisco, which is 7-1 in its last eight games.

"Things are clicking right now for us and we have to take advantage of that," Torres said.

Jonathan Sanchez got the start for the Giants and lasted six innings, allowing three runs and six hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. Ramon Ramirez, Javier Lopez, Sergio Romo and Brian Wilson went the rest of the way, with Wilson notching his 12th save in the ninth.

After today's bout with the Diamondbacks, the Giants will hit the road for seven games against the Cubs, Rockies and Dodgers. Matt Cain looks to end a six-game residency on a positive note when he takes the mound today and is 0-2 in his last four starts. Cain, who began the season 2-0 in the first three outings, did not record a decision in Friday's 4-3 win over Colorado and gave up three runs in seven innings.

Cain, a right-hander, is 2-2 with a 3.37 earned run average in seven starts and defeated Arizona on April 15 in the desert with six innings of one-run ball during a 5-2 victory. Cain is 7-4 with a 3.19 ERA in 18 career starts against the D'Backs.

Arizona has lost three in a row and fell to 1-4 on a nine-game road trip with last night's one-run loss. Henry Blanco homered and Kelly Johnson contributed a pair of hits for the Diamondbacks.

Armando Galarraga was saddled with the loss for allowing four runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 frames.

"We had a ton of chances early and we wasted them," said Arizona manager Kirk Gibson. "We had our opportunities to put runs on the board, but we didn't take advantage of them and it came back to cost us."

Gibson's club will also visit the Dodgers for three games this weekend and will hand the ball to Daniel Hudson in tonight's tilt by the Bay. Hudson lost his first four starts of the season, but has rebounded nicely with three straight wins. In a 6-0 decision at San Diego on Saturday, Hudson had the best outing of the season with seven shutout innings and six K's, pushing his record to 3-4 with a 4.47 earned run average.

Hudson, a right-hander, lost to San Francisco back on April 15, when he allowed five runs -- four earned -- in six innings of a 5-2 loss. He is 2-1 with a 3.15 ERA in three career starts against the Giants.

The Giants took two of three games against Arizona from April 15-17 this season at Chase Field and have won 10 of the last 12 meetings.
