Haren attempts to reverse Halos' fortunes in Arlington

May 14, 2011 - 2:29 PM (Sports Network) - Separated by just a half game atop the American League West standings, the LA Angels of Anaheim and the Texas Rangers continue their much- anticipated three-game series in Arlington.

The Rangers moved a step closer to the top spot in the division on Friday, as Elvis Andrus homered and drove in two, helping Texas to a 4-1 win. Adrian Beltre also hit a home run and Michael Young added an RBI for the Rangers, who have won two straight.

Alexi Ogando (4-0) allowed five hits and one run, fanning five over 6 1/3 innings for the win. Ogando is the only pitcher in the majors this season to record six starts of six-or-more innings, while allowing two runs or less and five hits or less.

Neftali Feliz turned in a scoreless ninth to earn his seventh save. Feliz has converted his last 18 regular-season save opportunities, and is 11-for-11 in save chances against LA in his career.

On a down note, Rangers center fielder Julio Borbon left the game in the seventh inning with a hamstring injury. He is doubtful for tonight's contest and could be headed towards to the disabled list.

Erick Aybar's solo shot provided the lone offense for the Angels, who have lost three of four. Aybar, though, extended his career-best hit streak to 11 games.

Jered Weaver (6-3) served up seven hits and four runs to suffer his third straight defeat, but struck out six and walked only one batter over six full frames.

"It's a little frustrating. Any time you lose you're going to be a little upset with yourself," Weaver said.

Hoping to get the Halos back on track tonight will be righty Dan Haren, who is off to a tremendous start, boasting a tremendous 1.87 ERA to go along with his 4-2 record. Haren has struck out 56 batters in 57 2/3 innings, while yielding only 41 hits and eight walks. He is coming off a 10-strikeout performance against Cleveland but didn't factor into the decision.

Haren has yet to face Texas this season and is 4-6 lifetime versus the Rangers despite a solid 3.60 ERA.

Derek Holland will oppose Haren, and the Texas lefty is 3-1 to date despite a modest 5.18 ERA. He is unbeaten at home this season, although his 7.29 ERA in Arlington is far from impressive. Holland is fresh off a no decision against the Yankees, a game in which he allowed four earned runs in just three innings of work.

Holland has made eight career appearances against the Angels, including five starts, and is 3-3 with a 5.40 ERA.

The Angels took two of three at Texas in April after dropping seven of the 10 as the guest in last year's season series.
