White Sox, A's collide at the Coliseum

Chicago drew first blood in this series on Friday, as Omar Vizquel doubled in a run during a four-run second inning to help the White Sox to a 4-3 win. Phil Humber (3-3) was solid in his start, allowing three runs on six hits in six- plus innings to get the win, Chicago's fifth in six games.
"I don't think anyone was expecting much out of me to start the year, but hopefully they're starting to expect more out of me," said Humber, who threw 61 of his 82 pitches for strikes..
Vizquel and Paul Konerko posted four of Chicago's five hits.
"I don't believe how you start is how you finish," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "We played very bad, we played very poorly for 2 1/2 weeks, very bad baseball. Name it: bad defense, bad offense, bad pitching, bad managing, bad coaching. Everything was bad.
"But now, now we're playing the way we thought we were going to play. Now, we're playing the way we built this ballclub and the expectations for this ballclub. We have to take it one day at a time. That's what we're doing now. Hopefully we'll continue to play good."
David DeJesus went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Oakland, which entered this set after splitting a rain-shortened series with the Rangers.
Brandon McCarthy (1-4) was charged with four runs -- three earned -- on five hits over seven innings in the loss. McCarthy had opened his big-league career with the White Sox in 2005.
Gavin Floyd will be on the mound for Chicago today, trying to improve upon a 4-2 record and 3.67 ERA. Floyd has struck out 44 batters while allowing 40 hits over 49 innings of work. He was most recently in action against Seattle, throwing eight shutout innings of three-hit ball.
Floyd is 3-0 lifetime against Oakland with a stellar 1.32 ERA.
Tyson Ross will get the ball for the Athletics, and he owns an outstanding 2.51 ERA despite a mediocre 2-2 record. He is coming off a victory over Kansas City that featured six strong innings of work. The 24-year-old righty made just two starts last season in 26 appearances and has already doubled that start total in 2011.
Ross, who picked up a win over Chicago earlier this season with three strong innings of relief ball, could be in the A's rotation from here on out following the news earlier in the week that Dallas Braden will need potentially season-ending shoulder surgery .
"It's terrible news to hear that Dallas had to go under the knife. We all want him back healthy and he's a big part of this team," said Ross, who is 1-1 with a 2.28 ERA as a starter this season. "I don't want to get into the rotation under those circumstances, but I'm just going to continue to pitch and keep doing my thing.
Oakland took two of three from the White Sox earlier in the year.
