Brewers send Narveson to hill vs. Pirates

Narveson actually pitched well his last time out on Sunday in St. Louis, but absorbed the loss nonetheless, surrendering three runs (two earned) and seven hits in six innings. He is 1-3 on the year with a 4.38 ERA.
The 29-year-old left-hander has faced the Pirates four times (three starts) and is 2-0 with a 4.26 ERA.
Pittsburgh, meanwhile, will counter with right-hander Jeff Karstens, who is 2-1 with a 3.62 ERA. Karstens didn't get a decision in his last start on Monday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, as he allowed a run and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings of his team's 4-1 win.
"Just knowing that I didn't have my best stuff early in my game, I fought through a lot of pitches," Karstens said. "I knew my job was to try and get as deep as I could. I knew we would fight back."
Karstens is 0-3 lifetime against the Brewers and has pitched to a 4.08 ERA in nine games (six starts) against them.
The Brewers continued their recent dominance of the Pirates on Friday, as Ryan Braun had three RBI to lead Milwaukee to a 5-2 victory. The Brewers have now won seven straight and 12 of their last 14 games over the Bucs.
Milwaukee has also won 31 of its last 34 home games in this series.
Yovani Gallardo (4-2) earned the win in six innings where he allowed two runs on five hits and three walks. He also struck out five and added an RBI to give the Brewers their fourth win in six games overall.
James McDonald (2-3) took the loss in just four innings of work for Pittsburgh. He allowed five runs on six hits and three walks while fanning seven in the Pirates' third straight loss.
"I lost command and fell behind the hitters. If you do that it makes it easy for them," said McDonald about his performance.
This game also featured a benches-clearing incident in the third inning when Pirates shortstop Ronnie Cedeno and Milwaukee's Rickie Weeks became involved following a run-down. Nothing physical occurred, though.
"I don't know if it gave us an extra spark, but when those things happen you can get a team going and fired up," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said about the incident.
