DeJesus' 1,000th hit helps A's past White Sox

May 15, 2011 - 3:33 AM Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - David DeJesus had a two-run triple -- his 1,000th career hit -- to help lead Oakland over Chicago, 6-2, in the second of a three-game set.

Tyson Ross (3-2) earned the win in 7 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk while fanning eight. The effort helped the A's snap a two-game slide.

Gavin Floyd (4-3) took the loss after allowing five runs on nine hits and two walks in 4 1/3 innings. He also struck out four in Chicago's second loss in seven games.

"It's a long season, you know. There are going times when you're going to be at your high and sometimes when you're not going to be at your best," said Floyd. "It just happened to be the day that I didn't pitch very well."

Kevin Kouzmanoff hit a one-out double before being knocked in by Cliff Pennington in the second. Pennington then moved to third on a single by Coco Crisp and came home on a Daric Barton sacrifice fly to give Oakland an early two-run advantage.

Oakland added to its lead in the fifth. Barton led off the inning with a single and Josh Willingham also singled two batters later to put runners on first and second. Both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch before DeJesus tripled to score them both. Kurt Suzuki followed with an RBI single to force Floyd from the game.

"I've had some success against Gavin [Floyd]. I've seen him a lot, and in that situation when you have a 2-0 lead and you needed a couple more to get a little security...It's a great situation to get number 1,000 on," said DeJesus.

Tony Pena entered in relief and walked Kouzmanoff and Pennington to load the bases with two outs. He then got Crisp to pop out to center to keep the score 5-0 Athletics.

Paul Konerko hit a two-run home run in the sixth to put Chicago on the board.

DeJesus walked to lead off the seventh and Suzuki singled before they were moved to second and third on a bunt by Mark Ellis. Kouzmanoff came up next and flew out to right field which allowed DeJesus to score on a throwing error by Carlos Quentin. DeJesus bluffed running home to draw the throw, and Quentin sailed the ball over the catcher to make the score 6-2.

Chicago had chances to get back into the game in the fourth and fifth innings but they could not get the big hit that they needed.

Alexei Ramirez walked to lead off the fourth and moved to third on a double by Adam Dunn. Konerko then lined out to first base and Ramirez was doubled up at third because he was running on contact and got caught too far off the bag. Quentin followed with a strike out to end the inning and keep Chicago scoreless.

Chicago also had a man on second with one out in the fifth but could not bring him in. Alex Rios led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch after a Ramon Castro strike out. But Gordon Beckham also struck out and Brent Morel grounded out to second to end the inning.

Game Notes

Konerko extended his hit streak to seven games...Floyd fell to 3-1 lifetime against Oakland...The White Sox went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
