Lincecum goes for Giants in Colorado

May 16, 2011 - 2:53 PM (Sports Network) - Tim Lincecum and the San Francisco Giants will begin a two-game series against the NL West-rival Colorado Rockies tonight from Coors Field.

The Giants have won seven of their last eight games, but their contest on Sunday against the Chicago Cubs was postponed because of rain. A makeup date has not yet been announced. The Giants will return to Wrigley Field for a three-game series from June 28-30. Heavy rain forced Saturday night's game between the Giants and Cubs to be shortened to six innings, as San Francisco squeezed out a 3-0 win.

Ryan Vogelsong improved to 3-0 on the season with six shutout innings and struck out seven batters. Buster Posey had an RBI for the Giants.

"The toughest part of the night was when they were in the batter's box, it was falling right in their eyes. They were having a hard time seeing," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said of the rain.

"Some guys saw pretty good -- they got some base hits -- but it was tough at the plate."

Lincecum will make his ninth start of the season tonight and is 3-3 with a 2.11 earned run average. He hasn't allowed a run in each of his previous two starts and is riding a 17-innings scoreless streak. Lincecum threw eight shutout innings in a 1-0 win over Arizona on Tuesday, just days after seven scoreless innings against the Mets on May 4.

The right-hander is 8-5 in 16 career starts against the Rockies and beat them on April 18 with 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball and 10 K's in an 8-1 victory.

Colorado has lost two straight and four of five games, including Sunday's 8-2 loss to the San Diego Padres in the finale of a three-game series.

Rockies starter Jason Hammel gave up a season-high six runs in his 6 1/3- inning start, giving up six hits and three walks in the loss.

"We are obviously frustrated out there," said Hammel. "But we can't get too down on ourselves or starting questioning everything we do because we do good things out there, it's just not working out for us right now."

Todd Helton homered and finished with two hits in a losing cause.

Taking the mound for the Rockies tonight will be Clayton Mortensen, who is 0-0 with a 0.55 earned run average in four games (1 start) this season. Mortensen has no record against the Giants in three career games, one of which was a start on May 7 in a 3-2 loss.

The righty lasted six innings and gave up two runs - one earned - in the no- decision
