Bartlett takes aim at record books in opener with Brewers

May 18, 2011 - 2:22 PM (Sports Network) - Jason Bartlett and the San Diego Padres are back at spacious Petco Park to begin an eight-game homestand, starting with Wednesday's opener of a two-game set versus the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Padres will also host Seattle and St. Louis on the residency and went 4-4 on a recent road trip. Bartlett has recorded an RBI in each of his last nine games to match a club record set by Sixto Lezcano in 1982 and tied by Steve Finley in 1996. The shortstop had a sacrifice fly in the first inning of Tuesday's 6-1 loss in Arizona, while Chris Denorfia finished with three hits for San Diego, which had a three-game winning streak stopped.

Brad Hawpe and Eric Patterson posted two hits apiece in defeat and Padres starter Tim Stauffer fell to 0-2 on the season after he surrendered four runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.

"We saw some good things on the road trip," Padres manager Bud Black told the club's site. "We saw some guys start to swing the bat, which is a good thing. Our starting pitchers had a little bit of a rough-go, but offensively, we did a lot of great things. Hopefully, that can carry over when we get back home."

Taking the hill for the Padres tonight will be struggling righty Dustin Moseley, who is 1-5 with a 3.40 earned run average in eight starts. Moseley has dropped back-to-back starts and lasted a season-low four innings in a 12-7 loss at Colorado on Friday.

Moseley allowed six runs and nine hits in four innings, and has yielded 11 earned runs in his last two outings. Moseley, 0-2 in three home starts this season, has never faced Milwaukee in his career.

Milwaukee had won four straight and six of seven games before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers by a 3-0 score on Tuesday in the finale of a two-game set. Randy Wolf was saddled with the loss for giving up two runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings.

"It was a battle for Randy," said Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke. "He was getting behind in counts. He kept us in the game."

Wolf had one of Milwaukee's six hits with a double and Prince Fielder finished 0-for-3 at the plate for the Brewers.

Yovani Gallardo has won consecutive starts and will shoot for a third when he takes the mound for the Brewers tonight. Gallardo started the run with eight shutout innings at St. Louis on May 7, then fired six innings of two-run ball in a 5-2 victory over Pittsburgh on Friday.

Gallardo, a right-hander, pushed his 2011 mark to 4-2 in nine starts and was able to lower his ERA to 4.88. He is only 1-2 in four road starts this season and 1-1 with a 5.87 ERA in three career starts against the Padres.

Milwaukee won two of three meetings with San Diego from May 9-11 at Miller Park and is 4-2 in the past six matchups between the two teams.
