Diamondbacks sweep Braves

May 20, 2011 - 6:26 AM Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Juan Miranda went 3-for-4 with the decisive RBI triple in the sixth inning, helping the Diamondbacks to a 2-1 victory and two- game series sweep against the Braves.

Rookie Josh Collmenter (3-0), in his second career start, limited Atlanta to just two hits in six scoreless innings to grab the win. He has made nine total appearances this season and given up only two runs and one walk in 26 innings.

"Moving into the starting role, I think, has been back to my comfort zone," Collmenter said. "I [feel] good going through my routine each week, and it's just kind of how I've done it the last four years. So it seems really natural."

Chris Young homered for Arizona, which has won three in a row and five of six.

Jair Jurrjens (5-1) allowed two runs on eight hits and a walk in 6 2/3 innings to take the loss, which is the Braves' second since a four-game win streak.

"J.J. pitched good enough to deserve to win the ballgame," said Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez. "Our bats didn't come alive until those last two innings. That's just the way it goes sometimes."

Young gave the Diamondbacks the lead with two outs in the sixth. Jurrjens' first-pitch fastball was belt-high and slightly inside -- a sitting duck for Young, who crushed it into the left field seats for a 1-0 edge.

Miguel Montero then singled, and Miranda crushed a hanging slider to center field. The ball hit the deck of seats that overhangs the field, and was ruled a triple, plating Montero.

Arizona manager Kirk Gibson trotted out of the dugout to chat with first base umpire Joe West, who conferred with his crew. The call stood after review -- replays showed the ball hit just inside the vertical yellow line that serves as the home run boundary.

The Diamondbacks' bullpen then held on to the lead. Sam Demel tossed a perfect seventh before Joe Paterson and Esmerling Vasquez worked a scoreless eighth.

J.J. Putz retired the first two hitters in the ninth before Brian McCann reached on a double. McCann scored when right fielder Justin Upton failed to catch a ball off Dan Uggla's bat, but Putz secured his 10th save by striking out Freddie Freeman.

Putz has converted his first 10 consecutive save chances, matching the club record set by Byung-Hyun Kim in 2002...Collmenter singled in the third inning for his first career hit...Freeman had three hits to lead Atlanta, which was 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position...Arizona begins interleague play Friday against Minnesota...Atlanta visits the Angels for a three-game weekend set.
