Indians send Carrasco to the hill in hopes of sweeping Reds
May 22, 2011 - 2:48 PMVideo
A victory this afternoon would give the Indians their first sweep of their Ohio rivals since June 11-13, 2004.
Coming off a victory at Kansas City on Tuesday, Carrasco will try to finally give a solid effort at Progressive Field, a place where the right-hander is 0-2 with an 8.49 ERA this season.
Taking the ball for the Reds will be Edinson Volquez. The 27-year-old right- hander is 1-0 over his last four starts and is coming off a no-decision against the Cubs on Tuesday. He's allowed three runs in each of his last three starts and is 1-1 with a 9.39 ERA in two career appearances against the Indians.
On Saturday, Travis Buck's two-run homer in the seventh inning was all the offense the Indians would need in a 2-1 pitching duel win.
"We continue to find a new hero each game and today it was Travis Buck," Cleveland manager Manny Acta said. "He hit that big homer for us."
Josh Tomlin (6-1) threw seven solid innings in his first appearance against a National League team for Cleveland, which has taken the first two of a three- game set against its interleague Ohio rival. The starter gave up just one run on three hits and struck out three.
Homer Bailey was equally as strong for the Reds, but gave up the costly home run in the seventh to get his first loss of the season. Bailey (3-1) ended up allowing just four hits and had four strikeouts over seven full frames.
Scott Rolen drove in the lone run in the loss, Cincinnati's fourth straight.
