Yankees aim to even set with Jays in the Bronx

Sabathia was brilliant in beating the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, as he scattered seven hits over eight scoreless innings and struck out nine without walking a batter to run his record to 4-3, while lowering his earned run average to 3.06.
The big left-hander has also had tremendous success against the Blue Jays, posting a 9-3 mark to go along with a 3.11 ERA. He has also never lost to them as a member of the Yankees and has won his last four decisions in this series.
Toronto, meanwhile, will counter with an impressive southpaw of its own in Romero, who his 4-4 with a 3.10 ERA. Romero won for the third time in his last four starts on Thursday against Tampa Bay, as he gave up a run and three hits in seven innings.
Romero started his run with a win over the Yankees on April 29. He is 3-2 lifetime against them with a 5.31 ERA in seven starts.
Toronto drew first blood in this set on Monday, as it scored five times in the sixth on its way to a 7-3 win. J.P. Arencibia's bases clearing double was the big hit in the pivotal frame and Jose Bautista belted his league-leading 19th home run to help the Blue Jays win for the ninth time in their last 12 games.
"I was able to hit it in the gap and it happened to land in there safely and score those runs," said Arencibia, who ended the game with four RBI.
Bautista has hit three home runs and driven in five runs against the Yankees this season. However, he is 0-for-11 with six strikeouts against Sabathia in his career.
Carlos Villanueva (2-0), making a spot start in place of Jesse Litsch, who was put on the disabled list with an impingement in his right shoulder, worked five solid innings. Starting his first game since October 3, 2009, the right- hander gave up only one run on two hits, struck out five and walked one.
Robinson Cano went 1-for-3 with three RBI for the Yankees, who lost for only the second time in their last seven tries.
Bartolo Colon (2-3), who turns 38 on Tuesday, had a rough outing, giving up seven hits and six runs with four walks over six innings. He struck out eight.
"He wasn't quite as sharp as we've seen him," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said about Colon. "He kept us in the game, but we were having trouble scoring off of Villanueva."
On the milestone watch Yankees closer Mariano Rivera has appeared in 999 games. With his next appearance, he will become the 15th pitcher in major league history to reach the 1,000-appearance plateau and the first to reach that total with one team
The Yankees have split their six matchups with the Blue Jays this season.
