Villanueva is unbeaten in 14 appearances (one start), having held opponents to a .129 average. His lone start of the season came Monday against the Yankees when the right-hander surrendered a pair of hits and a run in five innings of a 7-3 triumph. This will be his first start against the White Sox.
Edwin Jackson will get the start this afternoon for the White Sox. The right- hander has given up one run or less in four of his last five starts, including his most recent outing, Sunday against the Dodgers. In that game, he surrendered five hits and a run over 5 2/3 innings of an 8-3 triumph.
It's been feast or famine as far as runs go for Jackson. His team has scored zero runs four times in his past seven starts, but eight runs twice. All told, he's 2-5 in that span.
Jackson has compiled a 3-3 record with a 4.02 ERA in 13 games (12 starts) against the Blue Jays.
Last night, Yunel Escobar slapped an RBI double in the seventh inning that proved to be the deciding factor in Toronto's 4-2 victory.
Casey Janssen (2-0) earned the win in an inning of scoreless relief for Kyle Drabek. Drabek went 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits with five walks while striking out four.
Mark Buehrle (4-4) took the loss for the White Sox as he allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks through seven innings.
White Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham left Friday's game in the third inning after he was struck near the left eye with a ball.
Pierre extended his hitting streak to 12 games.
Toronto has won 20 of its last 26 versus Chicago.
