Reyes tries to string wins together at Camden Yards

Jun 5, 2011 - 2:33 PM (Sports Network) - Jo-Jo Reyes had a huge monkey lifted off of his shoulders in his last start when he won for the first time since 2008. Now the southpaw will try to begin a winning streak when he takes the hill for the Toronto Blue Jays in the finale of a three-game set against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards.

Reyes went 28 games without a win and came very close to setting the major league mark, but thankfully Reyes was able to break through into the win column. Making the story even better was that Reyes went the distance in the 11-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians, scattering eight hits and four walks.

This will be the first-ever start for Reyes against the Orioles, but if he wants to be victorious he will need to now win on the road, which has also been a problem for Reyes over the past few seasons. As for his performance in foreign territory this year, the lefty is 0-3 in six opportunities and has a 4.28 earned run average in those contests.

Jeremy Guthrie's inability to corral victories does not run as deep as Reyes', but the right-hander for the Orioles has found it tough in his own right, winning just twice in 11 starts.

Despite his disastrous record Guthrie has been a strong option for Buck Showalter and comes into this contest with a steady ERA of 3.24. The last time the 32-year-old was on the hill he fell victim to poor defense, and it cost him dearly. Guthrie lasted eight innings against Seattle, striking out nine batters, while walking just one. However, he surrendered three unearned runs in that one.

Squaring off against Toronto is nothing new for Guthrie, as this will be his 16th meeting against the division rival. In the previous 15 showdowns, Guthrie is just 2-6, but does possess a solid 3.44 earned run average.

Yesterday, Mark Reynolds hit his first-career grand slam in the sixth inning, as Baltimore rallied past the Blue Jays, 5-3. J.J. Hardy drove in a run for the Orioles, who bounced back from an 8-4 loss in the series opener on Friday.

Fresh off the 15-day disabled list, Derrek Lee went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Jake Arrieta (7-3) gave up three runs on five hits over six innings to pick up the win. The right-hander also walked four and struck out one.

Corey Patterson went 3-for-4 with a solo homer for the Blue Jays, who have lost three of four. Rajai Davis and Mike McCoy both knocked in a run.

Ricky Romero (5-5) allowed five runs on 11 hits over 7 2/3 frames. The southpaw also struck out five and walked three in the loss.

The Blue Jays squared off with Baltimore 18 times a year ago, winning 15 of those matchups, and took six of nine meetings on the road.
