Dodgers, Reds close out set in Cincinnati

Jun 5, 2011 - 2:35 PM (Sports Network) - Travis Wood tries to win his fourth consecutive decision when he takes the mound this afternoon for the Reds against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the rubber match of a three-game series.

Wood is coming off a six-inning home victory Monday against the Brewers, when he allowed seven hits and three runs. The southpaw is unbeaten over his last six appearances and hasn't lost since April 29 against Florida. This will be his first career outing vs. the Dodgers.

It's also doubtful the Dodgers will be able to run on Wood. Incredibly, in 29 career starts and 170 1/3 innings, he's allowed just one stolen base.

Chad Billingsley, a native of Defiance, Ohio, toes the rubber today for the Dodgers. The righty has won his last two starts, including holding the Rockies to a run over seven innings Monday. Billingsley won the decision despite giving up a career-high 11 hits and was able to pitch out of trouble several times.

He's 4-2 with a 3.43 ERA in eight games (7 starts) when facing the Reds. Billingsley, however, gave up seven runs over 8 2/3 innings pitched in two starts against them last season, going 1-0 in the process.

Jamey Carroll went 4-for-5 and singled in the go-ahead run in the 11th inning to complete the Dodgers' 11-8 comeback win yesterday. Matt Kemp was instrumental in stopping Los Angeles' two-game skid, going 3- for-5 with two home runs and a career-high six RBI, including a game-tying grand slam in the eighth inning. Aaron Miles added three hits and three RBI for the victors.

"I think that was my first time getting six [RBI]. It was definitely a big game for me and I was happy we got the win. We needed that," said Kemp.

Reds starter Johnny Cueto was in line for the win after giving up two runs on five hits over seven innings, but his bullpen failed to hold a five-run lead.

Joey Votto hit a three-run homer off Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw, who was knocked around for a season-high six runs on six hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings.

Since 2006, the Dodgers are 27-10 against the Reds.
