A's, O's continue series in Baltimore

Jun 7, 2011 - 3:07 PM (Sports Network) - Right-hander Guillermo Moscoso returns to the rotation with a chance to end a seven-game losing streak tonight when the Oakland Athletics take on the Baltimore Orioles in the second test of three midweek games at Camden Yards.

The Athletics' skid reached seven in Monday night's opener, when Baltimore's Matt Wieters collected two hits, an RBI and a run scored to lead the Orioles to a 4-2 win.

Robert Andino and J.J. Hardy added two hits apiece while Vladimir Guerrero and Nick Markakis chipped in a hit and an RBI each to help the Orioles bounce back after a 7-4 loss to Toronto on Sunday.

Brian Matusz (1-0) threw 5 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits while walking two and fanning three to pick up his first win of 2011.

Kevin Gregg pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his 11th save of the year for Baltimore.

Adam Rosales had two hits, including his first home run of the year, and Conor Jackson contributed two hits for the Athletics.

Gio Gonzalez (5-4) worked seven innings in defeat, giving up four runs - three earned - on nine hits while striking out three and walking one.

Oakland is last in the American League West Division, seven games behind the first-place Texas Rangers and 2 1/2 back of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in third place.

Moscoso, who debuted in 2009 and spent 2010 with Texas before heading to Oakland this season, made the first two starts of his big-league career on May 24 and 29, combining to allow eight hits and four runs in 11 innings against the Angels and Orioles.

He went back to the bullpen for two appearances in Boston on June 3 and 4 and gave up four hits and a run in three innings.

In three overall meetings with the Orioles, the 27-year-old has surrendered nine hits and seven runs in 6 2/3 innings with five walks and four strikeouts.

Baltimore counters with right-hander Chris Jakubauskas, who debuted with Seattle in 2009 and spent 2010 in Pittsburgh before arriving with the Orioles this year.

He'll make his first start of the season after five consecutive appearances in relief, in which he combined to allow 18 hits and nine runs across 12 2/3 innings.

The Orioles have lost all five games in which he's appeared.

His last outing came June 3 against Toronto, when, in an 8-4 Baltimore loss, the 32-year-old allowed two hits and struck out a pair in two scoreless innings.

He's faced Oakland four times in 41 major-league outings, going 1-1 with a hold and a 7.71 earned run average in 11 2/3 innings.

Oakland swept a three-game set from the O's earlier in the year and is 20-5 in the series since the start of the 2008 campaign.
