Reyes lifts Mets over Brewers

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Jose Reyes' two-run triple in the seventh inning was the difference, as the New York Mets clipped Milwaukee, 2-1, in the first of three between the clubs at Miller Park.

"He gets on base, gets us going. It's just great to have him back," said Mets manager Terry Collins of his shortstop, who extended his hit streak to 11 straight games.

Chris Capuano (4-6) worked six innings and allowed six hits and one run for the Mets, who have won three straight and four of five overall.

"I think he threw his fastball where he wanted to, kept it down consistently, to a place where it was hard to hit," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke about the ex-Brewer, who returned to bedevil his old mates.

Francisco Rodriguez turned in a scoreless ninth to post his 17th save.

Prince Fielder's solo homer was the lone offense for the Brewers, who saw their four-game win streak snapped.

Marco Estrada (1-3) was charged with the runs that came from the Reyes triple in his one inning of relief. Starter Shaun Marcum tossed six scoreless frames, giving up two hits and four walks.

Marcum departed in the seventh, and Estrada gaveup a leadoff walk to Josh Thole, a single to Ruben Tejada and a two-run triple from Reyes -- his major-league leading 10th three-bagger. After Reyes was erased at home on a fielder's choice, Carlos Beltran was robbed of a home run by Carlos Gomez, who made a leaping catch just to the right of center.

"I started off with a change, you've got to get your first pitch across. I left the ball up and he did what he's supposed to do with that," Estrada said of the game-deciding hit. "Maybe if I had a ground ball, I might have gotten a double play."

But the Brewers remained punchless offensively, failing to make a dent against Pedro Beato, Jason Isringhausen and Rodriguez over their final three at-bats.

Gomez stranded runners on the corners in the home fourth when he flied out to left.

Fielder snapped the scoreless tie when he teed off on a Capuano offering to dead center to start the sixth.

Game Notes

There were just 11 combined hits in the contest...Milwaukee fell to 21-8 at home and New York improved to 14-14 away from Queens.
