Bumgarner hopes to find the win column as Giants clash with Reds

Bumgarner tries for just his third victory of the season tonight in the opener of a four-game series against the Cincinnati Reds at AT&T Park.
The 21-year-old Bumgarner comes into this start tied for the National League lead in losses with seven to just two wins despite a 3.42 earned run average in 12 starts. He has been even better over eight straight quality starts, posting a 2.01 ERA in that span.
The left-hander lost for the first time in four starts on Saturday even though he allowed just two runs -- one earned -- on seven hits over seven innings versus the Rockies. He also remained winless at home this year, falling to 0-3 with a 4.39 ERA in five starts.
Bumgarner will make his second career start versus the Reds and it can't go much worse than his first. He lasted a career-low 2 2/3 innings against them last season, allowing eight runs, including seven earned, and three homers before getting the hook.
The Reds counter will a solid arm of their own in Johnny Cueto, who is 2-2 with a 2.27 ERA in six starts after beginning the season on the disabled list. The righty won his first two starts of the season, but is 0-2 with a 3.46 ERA in four outings since.
Cueto got a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Saturday, yielding two runs on five hits over seven innings. He left with a 4-2 lead, but the Reds eventually lost in extra innings.
The 25-year-old will also be facing the Giants for just the second time in his career, getting a no-decision last year after giving up four runs on 10 hits over six innings of work.
San Francisco comes into this opener two games up on Arizona for first place in the NL West and off a series victory over Washington. Matt Cain struck out 11 in his 13th career complete game, leading the Giants to a 3-1 victory in Wednesday's rubber match.
Cain gave up one run and also had an RBI in San Francisco's seventh victory in 10 games.
"I felt good. We were just ahead in the count a lot and Eli (Whiteside) was calling a lot of good pitches. We were really on the same page," said Cain.
The Giants went ahead for good with two runs in the seventh inning, with Brandon Crawford driving in Cody Ross with a two-out triple before scoring on a Whiteside single.
Cincinnati, meanwhile, failed to secure a three-game sweep of the Cubs after losing Wednesday's meeting, 4-1. Bronson Arroyo took the loss, allowing four runs -- three earned -- over 6 1/3 innings and yielded back-to-back homers in the fourth inning. He has now allowed 16 homers this season.
"Bronson threw the ball well today, but just got bit by the longball," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "He just has to figure out a way to keep the ball in the ballpark."
Jay Bruce had an RBI single for Cincinnati, which was without third baseman Scott Rolen due to illness.
The Giants won four of seven over the Reds a season ago, taking two of three at home.
