Cubs outlast Phillies in extras

In the 11th with David Herndon (0-1) on the mound, Colvin led off with a single and moved to second on a passed ball. The next two batters recorded outs, but Darwin Barney hit a grounder to third that saw Ryan Howard unable to dig up Placido Polanco's short throw and Colvin scored for the lead.
Carlos Marmol worked around a leadoff single by Carlos Ruiz in the 11th by getting the next three batters to fly out and pick up his 12th save of the season.
Geovany Soto tied the game in the ninth with a solo home run while Starlin Castro and Carlos Pena each drove in a run for the Cubs, who have won their past two. Sean Marshall (3-0) got the win for pitching two scoreless innings.
Jimmy Rollins, who had been out of the starting lineup since fouling a ball off his knee in a game against the Pirates on Saturday, returned and his three-run home run provided all the offense for the Phillies, who have dropped six of their last nine.
Due to a one hour and 17 minute rain delay with one out in the third, neither starter lasted long as Kyle Kendrick gave up just two hits in three innings for the Phils while Randy Wells gave up the three-run home run on three hits for the Cubs.
The bottom of the second saw the Phillies take the lead. Raul Ibanez singled to leadoff the inning and Dane Sardinha later walked. After Kendrick struck out, Rollins crushed a 3-2 pitch into the stands in right field for a 3-0 lead.
The Cubs got their first run across in the sixth inning. With two outs, Barney was hit by a pitch and promptly stole second. Castro then singled to right to chase home Barney for a 3-1 game.
In the eighth inning Chicago was able to push another run across on back-to- back, two-out doubles from Castro and Pena to make it a 3-2 contest.
Soto's fourth home run of the season in the ninth off Ryan Madson tied the game and Colvin appeared to give the Cubs the lead as he followed with a shot to center. However, the play was reviewed and it was ruled a ground-rule double due to fan interference and Colvin was stranded there to send the game to extra innings.
Game Notes
Chicago took four of six from Philadelphia last season...Roy Halladay pitches for the Phils on Friday and will be opposed by Carlos Zambrano for the Cubs...It was the first blown save of the season by Madson.
